Air Test Kits: Test Your Home & Office Air Quality and Safeguard Your Health.

Many people have some form of allergies, recurring colds, sinus issues or infections, etc., and never think that it could be related to the air quality in their home, or at the office. Since humans inhale about 3000 gallons of air on average each day, coupled with the fact that nearly all indoor air has some amount of dust, mold spores, bacteria, pollen, etc floating around, that makes checking your indoor air quality a very good idea. Even the EPA recently listed indoor air pollution in the top five major health threats in the U.S., and around the world. And once you test your, that will tell you if you need to do something–spend money on an air purifier, duct cleaning job, new filters–or not. It makes no sense to spend money when it isn’t necessary, but if you test and find that your home or office indoor air is polluted and you have any recurring allergy, sinus, respiratory or other health problems, you may just be able to alleviate your symptoms and save on medications, trips to the doctor and more.

So now the big question: how do I test air quality in my home, office, apartment, or building properly? Well, there are a couple of main ways to effectively test indoor air quality—DIY air test strips and air sampling devices, with accredited lab analysis and results. Which type of testing to use can depend on what type of symptoms you are experiencing, how much you know about what you’re sensitive to, and how much you want to spend. Obviously, if you have bites or red itchy places when you wake up, you would probably want to test for dust mites and bed bugs. If you have lots of sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes while in your home, you’ll need an air quality test for a broad category called ‘allergens’ , which includes everything from dust to mold spores. Some people are sensitive to organic vapors, or VOC’s that are slowly released by a lot of paints, solvents, cleaning products and other chemicals commonly found or used in homes and offices.

To test for chemical emissions, you can buy a DIY test strip for ‘organic vapor’. If you’re not sure exactly what you’re sensitive or allergic to, it can be more cost effective to use an air sampling device such as BHC’s EvaluAire 2000, which captures a small amount of air (and anything that might be floating in it) and does a full lab analysis that includes allergens, organic vapors, pretty much everything. This test costs a little more, but instead of buying several test strips for different things at $50, $75, or $250 or more, the Evaluaire 2000 can do a full analysis for around $385. Then you’ll know what is present in the air in your home, office, building , or apartment and you can decide what steps to take.

But do be careful regarding air quality testing, as all air test kits are not the same. There are a lot of air quality test kits out there, but many of them don’t use accredited labs, are difficult to use, and often aren’t as accurate, which could end up being a waste of your time and money. The best home and office indoor air quality test kits use accredited labs, are very accurate, easy to use, and you get clear results in 3-5 days. This is why we recommend BHC air test kits. No, but you get guaranteed results and that can be worth a lot if you health is at stake, and if you need to prove that contaminated air quality contributed to a health condition that you’re filing suit for, etc.
