Air Test Kits: Test Your Home & Office Air Quality and Safeguard Your Health.

Many people have some form of allergies, recurring colds, sinus issues or infections, etc., and never think that it could be related to the air quality in their home, or at the office. Since humans inhale about 3000 gallons of air on average each day, coupled with the fact that nearly all indoor air has some amount of dust, mold spores, bacteria, pollen, etc floating around, that makes checking your indoor air quality a very good idea. Even the EPA recently listed indoor air pollution in the top five major health threats in the U.S., and around the world. And once you test your, that will tell you if you need to do something–spend money on an air purifier, duct cleaning job, new filters–or not. It makes no sense to spend money when it isn’t necessary, but if you test and find that your home or office indoor air is polluted and you have any recurring allergy, sinus, respiratory or other health problems, you may just be able to alleviate your symptoms and save on medications, trips to the doctor and more.

So now the big question: how do I test air quality in my home, office, apartment, or building properly? Well, there are a couple of main ways to effectively test indoor air quality—DIY air test strips and air sampling devices, with accredited lab analysis and results. Which type of testing to use can depend on what type of symptoms you are experiencing, how much you know about what you’re sensitive to, and how much you want to spend. Obviously, if you have bites or red itchy places when you wake up, you would probably want to test for dust mites and bed bugs. If you have lots of sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes while in your home, you’ll need an air quality test for a broad category called ‘allergens’ , which includes everything from dust to mold spores. Some people are sensitive to organic vapors, or VOC’s that are slowly released by a lot of paints, solvents, cleaning products and other chemicals commonly found or used in homes and offices.

To test for chemical emissions, you can buy a DIY test strip for ‘organic vapor’. If you’re not sure exactly what you’re sensitive or allergic to, it can be more cost effective to use an air sampling device such as BHC’s EvaluAire 2000, which captures a small amount of air (and anything that might be floating in it) and does a full lab analysis that includes allergens, organic vapors, pretty much everything. This test costs a little more, but instead of buying several test strips for different things at $50, $75, or $250 or more, the Evaluaire 2000 can do a full analysis for around $385. Then you’ll know what is present in the air in your home, office, building , or apartment and you can decide what steps to take.

But do be careful regarding air quality testing, as all air test kits are not the same. There are a lot of air quality test kits out there, but many of them don’t use accredited labs, are difficult to use, and often aren’t as accurate, which could end up being a waste of your time and money. The best home and office indoor air quality test kits use accredited labs, are very accurate, easy to use, and you get clear results in 3-5 days. This is why we recommend BHC air test kits. They have an outstanding reputations for accuracy and value. Are they the cheapest? No, but you get guaranteed results and that can be worth a lot if you health is at stake, and if you need to prove that contaminated air quality contributed to a health condition that you’re filing suit for, etc.

Here at Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com, we sell only BHC indoor air test kits because they are proven and used worldwide for quality air tests at an affordable price, with easy to use test kits you can use at home, in apartments, offices, building and more, and get fast, accurate results from an accredited lab. If you have a particular indoor air quality concern and don’t see the air test kit for it, let us know. We either have that test kit or can create one for your situation. We have indoor air quality experts to standing by to help—give us a call toll-free at 1-800-701-2513 with any questions!

Is Your Air Purifier Really Working? Test and See with a Dylos Portable Laser Particle Counter!

There are so many air purifiers on the market and lots of claims as to how well they clean the ambient air in your home, reduce indoor air pollution, etc. And usually, we just take for granted that the air purifier is doing its job. When you spend several hundred dollars on a quality room air purifier, you want to know that you haven’t wasted your money, right? Well, now you can test like a pro and determine whether that air purifier is or how well it is removing allergy causing particles and other pollutants — with a portable laser particle counter.

Laser particle counters or air quality monitors use laser beams to detect particles in the air—when a particle floats past or intersects a beam, the computer counts that particle. After about 15 minutes, you’ll get an accurate reading of how many particles are floating around—multiply that by 100 and you’ll know exactly how many particles are present per cubic foot of air in your home, office, shop, etc. Portable laser particle counters are great for giving you peace of mind about your air purifiers or at least help you make a better decision. If you test the air when your air purifier has been running for a few minutes and test when the unit is off and compare numbers, you should see a lot lower numbers of particles when the unit is running. If they are pretty close, or the particle numbers are higher when the air purifier is running, you’ve got a problem with the air purifier. Sometimes it is simply because the filters were not installed correctly and didn’t seal so you can re-seat the filters and check again. If the air purifier still isn’t doing its job, you may want to choose another brand.

One brand of air quality monitors that we have found effective and affordable is Dylos. Dylos air quality monitors have been around a long time and they have a reputation for being accurate, durable and affordable. The Dylos DC1100 series includes several monitor models, some with PC interface where you can view the particle counts and hour-by-hour history on a computer via graphs, and one that is designed for air purifier testing—the Dylos DC1100 Air Purifier Test Portable Air Monitor. To accurately test an air purifier, the unit must be able to detect a full range of sizes of particles, including sub-micron particles down to 0.5 microns, and it must be electrically shielded so that the air purifier’s energy field doesn’t throw off the readings.

If you try to use a basic air monitor without this shielding or one that doesn’t include a full range of particle sizes, you’ll be getting inaccurate or incomplete air quality information. That is why Dylos air monitors are so good—they are very accurate and give you clear information, the first time. Your air monitor can also help you monitor overall indoor air quality and let you know if you need to change you’re air conditioner filters or if you need duct cleaning, etc. If you need to make sure the air is dust free for painting, wood working or refinishing, the Dylos DC 1100 series can tell you clearly when the air is clean enough to begin! And since Dylos air monitors are portable, you can take them with you to check air quality in other areas, prevent allergies, help out a friend and more.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com is an authorized distributor of Dylos DC 1100 ambient air monitors. And since we are an online store, we don’t have the overhead of traditional stores so we pass those savings on to you, with low prices and free shipping. Ultrasonic Mini Travel Humidifiers: A Way to Prevent Ruined Vacations?

It never fails. You’re fine at home, in your bedroom, etc. And you travel to your vacation locations, and sure enough, you start coughing, get a scratchy throat, etc. And then some more allergy symptoms set in so that it’s tough to enjoy the personal time you’ve planned on for months. What many people don’t realize is that the humidity level at other locations, hotel rooms, etc, is often very different than what you find at home—not only the outside humidity but also the indoor humidity level. This is one reason people traveling from a fairly humid environment to drier climates such as California or Arizona often develop a case of asthma or asthma-like symptoms, something they’ve never had before. And since their bodies are used to a higher humidity level, the drier air tends to dry out the tissues in the airway and make them more sensitive—which brings on inflammation very easily and they start coughing, wheezing, etc.

The quick and easy answer to this is to use a mini ultrasonic cool mist travel humidifier. Portable ultrasonic humidifiers use high level sound vibration to vaporize the water into a mist that is released into the air. This fine mist will keep the your airway moist and go a long way toward preventing dry, scratchy throats, eyes, etc. And, ultrasonic humidifiers are great for use with pure aromatherapy oils. The oils get vaporized along with the water and not only freshen the air (in must hotel rooms, etc) but pure essential oils are antibacterial and antiviral, so they can actually help prevent colds, flu and other airborne based illnesses from taking hold and ruining a vacation. Plus, since these travel humidifiers are portable, you can take them wherever you may need them, especially at the office. Ever notice that you tend to cough, have more sore throats, etc at the office? It’s often because office air conditioners tend to remove too much water from the air, leaving it too dry. That’s easily fixed, however, with an ultrasonic cool mist travel humidifier. They use very little energy and will quietly keep the humidity level up to where you’re comfortable, wherever you are. Portable travel humidifiers are very useful in bedrooms and baby rooms, too, since keeping the air moist can help keep a baby’s cough to a minimum as well.

Not all mini travel humidifiers are the same, however. You want only the filter-less type of humidifier, and you want ultrasonic, not the conventional warm mist type. Warm mist humidifiers have a tendency to eventually have an overheated heating element that causes the humidifier to break down, and does sometimes cause a fire. The cool mist ultrasonic type uses far less energy and doesn’t have a heating element to cause any trouble. And you don’t want a mini humidifier with a filter that has to be changed, which is just an extra expense and can allow bacteria to colonize, which can be dangerous.

For cool mist ultrasonic humidifiers, it's best to use distilled water so the water is pure to begin with so there’s less chance of bacteria growing in the unit. And if you use essential oils in the water for a little aromatherapy, those oils will also kill most any bacteria that would be attempting to grow. Plus, there’s no heat source (as with warm mist humidifiers) so that makes it even harder for bacteria to grow. Stadler Form Anton and Jerry are great  mini travel humidifiers are inexpensive, which allows you to get relief without spending a lot.

At Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com, we currently only sell the best cool mist humidifiers, aromatherapy oils, and waterless vaporizers, but we will soon be offering several other types of humidifiers for homes, rooms, offices and industrial use, to include evaporative and warm mist types, all of which will be filter-less or filter-free. And since we are an online store, we don’t have the overhead of traditional stores and we pass those savings on to you with cheap discount prices and free shipping every day. Replacement Air Filters: Even More Important Than Water Filters?

Most people use a water filter to make sure they have clean water to drink for themselves and their families. And that’s because most people use or drink 1-2 gallons of water a day, including cooking, drinking, and they realize that there are harmful pollutants in most tap water sources. But did you know that most humans inhale about 3000 gallons of air per day and over 90% of that inside our homes, rooms, and offices? That makes having clean indoor air very, very important, since over 90% of homes and offices have indoor air that is polluted with dust, dust mites, mold, bacteria, fibers, chemicals and more—all of which can and do cause illness and aggravating allergies. That means, if you’ve made the smart decision to buy an air cleaner, replacing your filters can mean the difference between health or recurring illness, colds, flu, trips to the hospital, etc for you and your family. This is even more true for those that work or spend time around industrial or commercial situations and rooms where levels of indoor pollutants can be 50 to 100 times more concentrated—and 50 to 100 times more dangerous.

Which filters should you replace? All of them. Why? Because quality air purifiers usually have 2 or 3 different filters that perform different functions to give you the cleanest air possible. The pre-filters trap the larger particles so that they don’t prematurely clog your HEPA filter, which can cause costly 3 month HEPA filter changes. Ouch. The HEPA filter is designed to trap the smaller, more dangerous particles down to 0.3 or 0.1 microns. These particles are dangerous because they are small enough to get into the lungs and even enter the bloodstream. The carbon or charcoal filter cartridge traps airborne chemical, gas, and vapor residues from cleaning products, solvents, paints, carpets, laundry supplies, and other substances that are constantly releasing gases into rooms in homes or offices. All of these filters, HEPA, carbon or charcoal, and prefilters do have a lifespan and the manufacturer usually states on the package or in a manual or package insert when to change the filters. If you don’t see any indication as to when to change the filter kit, use this rule of thumb: prefilters every 3 months, HEPA and carbon filters every 1 to 1.5 years. Some air purifier filters will last 2-3 years under normal conditions, but to be safe, we recommend changing them as indicated above. If you don’t, the filters become clogged and don’t allow air flow, which causes a ‘backflow’ situation, which pushes polluted air out of the unit, not through the filter. This actually increases allergies and other health problems by circulating polluted air more because now this polluted air is being blown around the room by a fan in the air purifier.

And the recommendation of buying replacement air cleaner filters at least every 1.5 years applies only to home and room air purifiers. Hospitals need to have their air filters replaced on or before recommended replacement time, without fail, due to the infectious diseases that can be spread by polluted air. If you spend time around or work in an industrial or commercial situation where the air needs to be cleaned daily (which includes virtually all industrial situations), the filter kit may need replacing even sooner, such as every 6 months to 1 year, all depending on what the level of indoor air pollution is for that area. Some industrial pollutants are actually combustible when trapped by a carbon filter and will ignite under the right conditions if the filter is overly full, so in that case, it is of utmost importance to replace industrial and commercial air filters as recommended by the manufacturer to prevent an explosion. Check with the replacement air purifier filter manufacturer to determine actual filter life for the conditions and pollutants being removed. If your boss needs a reminder to change the filters, find a way to do that—maybe ask a questions about how long the filters last? Most times, he or she will at least think about the filters long enough to realize that replacement air filters need to be purchased.

At Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com, you can buy quality replacement air filters online for some of the best air purifiers on the market, from manufacturers like Aller Air, Austin Air, Blueair, Tiger, Winix, and Electrocorp, (industrial air filtration systems, charcoal cartridges). And since we are an online store, we don’t have the overhead of traditional stores so we pass those savings on to you with cheap discount prices and free shipping every day. Fume Extractors for Nail Salons: A Way to Increase Your Business?

When it comes to customers, it’s often what you don’t know that can really hurt your business. In general, it’s human nature to avoid conflict and for the most part, customers who have an unpleasant experience don’t make a scene—they just don’t come back. Then, you notice your business beginning to decline and you’re not sure why. Well, if you read enough beauty blogs and listen, you’ll see that often when a nail customer doesn’t return it’s one of 3 main reasons: price, quality of work, and…too many fumes or unpleasant overall experience, headache, eye or some other kind of irritation that was caused by the chemicals gases and fumes released when using nail salon products. And good or bad, people tell other people. Some nail salon owners try a DIY solution, either rigging up some kind of air cleaner system or just buying a regular air filtration system, and neither of those ever work well or comply with OSHA regulations. And not complying with OSHA regulations can result in hefty fines, making it even harder to succeed in business.

There is an easy solution to all of these problems, however, and that is to install a nail salon fume collector in your nail salon. Nail salon fume extractors have special filters that are designed to capture the vapors, chemicals and particles associated with doing nail work, and they will not only prevent the issues mentioned above, but since many other nail salon owners are still not cleaning the air, your customers will tell others that the air is clean in your salon, no headaches, allergy attacks, etc. That good ‘word of mouth’ advertising will increase your business on its own. Having a quality fume extractor system in your nail salon will increase your business in another way, too—less down or sick time with your employees. Since these systems capture the vapors, chemicals, particles and gases that cause illness, you and your employees will be more productive and spend more time building your business, not at the doctor’s office. And, you’ll spend less time cleaning (or less money paying someone to clean) because when the air is free of pollutants, dust, particles, sticky residues, etc, there’s less to settle on equipment, mirrors, floors, etc.

So where do you get affordable nail salon fume extraction systems and how should the system be designed? Good question. There are a lot of inferior air filtration systems on the market so it’s important to make sure that they unit has 1) enough properly activated carbon to remove the voc’s, gases, and chemicals you’re dealing with, 2) a good HEPA filter for removing particles from grinding, polishing, etc,, and 3) good construction, good warranty, and a good reputation. The only manufacturer that we’ve found that has all of these features is Electrocorp. Electrocorp makes source-capture fume extractors such as the Salon 5000 and Salon 6000 units, to place at each nail station or in between every 2 nail stations at a minimum.

These salon units are great for hair and nail salons and use specially-activated carbon filters and medical-grade HEPA filters to capture virtually all of the pollutants in the air on the first pass, immediately as they are released and before you or your customers can breathe them. Electrocorp also custom designs fume extraction systems with appropriate duct work collection points for more of a whole-salon system. Either one is going to be an excellent, money-saving, and business-increasing investment, and likely will give you an edge over your competition (since, again, many nail salon owners aren’t using fume collection systems yet).

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com is proud to be an authorized Electrocorp distributor, one of the very best manufacturers of quality industrial and commercial fume extraction systems in the world. In fact, Electrocorp is the only brand of fume collection systems that we offer, and that is because of their unmatched effectiveness, reputation for quality, and value. And since we are an online store, we don’t have the overhead of traditional stores. That means we can pass those savings on to you with cheap discount prices and free shipping to anywhere in the Continental U.S. Whatever chemical, gas, fume, or particle filtration system you need, Electrocorp has a unit perfectly designed for that purpose. Dust Collection Systems: Reduce Insurance Costs, Equipment Maintenance Costs and More.

With the current economy and new administration, most industrial, commercial, even home workshop business owners are looking for any way they can to cut costs. And if your business involves any process that produces dust and other harmful particles, you might be surprised at how much this ‘dust’, if not removed, cuts into your bottom line.

Why? Very simply, dust, fibers and particles in the air clog and cause a need for more frequent maintenance, which costs money. And if you have employees, dust can cause a variety of health issues, which also cost money in the form of lost productivity, higher insurance rates, higher health care costs, and even lawsuits. Controlling this dust, however, is actually very easy to do with a proper commercial-grade dust collector. And home woodworking shops need dust collection systems even more than some industrial applications because the dust is being released into an attached to your home—where you live, sleep, and can be exposed to toxic dust up to 24 hours a day.

Essentially, if you use grinders, saws, lathes, drill presses, routers, wood carving tools, sandblasters, sanders, planers or anything that releases metal, wood, ceramic or any other dust, you’ve got to have a dust collection system or your compromising the health and safety of you, your family, and employees if you have any. Buying a quality dust removal unit can easily pay for itself simply with fewer health issues, allergies, asthma attacks, and even lower insurance rates (just ask your insurance agent if having a dust extractor or dust filtration system gives you a discount on your rates). And if there is less dust floating around, there is less dust to clog up machines, and less of a need to call pay for maintenance or repair at $50 a hour or more.

There are several types of dust collectors, but the two main categories are the standard dust collector, and cyclone dust collection systems. Standard dust collectors or extractors use particle filters, and some use a series of filters—dust prefilter and HEPA filters—to thoroughly clean the air and capture over 99% of airborne particles and dust. Cyclone dust collectors use high-speed air much like a small tornado that creates suction and removes the particles without the use of filters. The advantage of using cyclone dust collectors is not having to replace filters, which reduces expense and employee or your exposure to contaminants when changing filters. Choosing a cyclonic dust collection system can be especially important if the dust is particularly toxic, though it is recommended that you keep your respirator or mask on when emptying the unit.

The bottom line is this: whatever kind of dust you produce in your home workshop or industrial business, removing it from the air keeps maintenance costs and employee health costs down, productivity and revenues up. And having a dust collection system in your home workshop can mean the difference between enjoying your hobby illness free, or creating sickness for you and your family.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com is proud to be an authorized distributor of Electrocorp dust collectors, dust filtration systems, and replacement filters, that are perfect for any workshop, woodshop, or industrial setting. Electrocorp can easily custom design a dust collection system to meet your needs–at an affordable price. And because we are an online store, we don’t have the overhead of a traditional store. That allows us to pass those savings on to you with cheap discount prices, and free shipping to anywhere in the Continental U.S. Call us toll free with your dust removal questions at 1-800-701-2513. Commercial-Grade Air Cleaning Systems: A Shortcut to Higher Productivity for Your Business?

You’ve heard it before: a company’s production is only as strong as its employees. Aside from employee recognition and compensation, the one other major factor affecting performance is how your employees feel, how much energy they have on a daily basis. Studies have shown that air quality, especially in commercial or industrial work areas, can make be the difference between employees that feel good and produce well, and employees that don’t feel their best, and produce less. Why? Very simply put, air pollution causes inflammation in the body, resulting in everything from headaches to respiratory ailments, eye irritation, allergies, and more—all of which distract the employee from the work at hand, resulting in lower output, and downtime from illness.

Poor air quality can easily cause in increase in use of sick days, which definitely impacts productivity—and increase doctor visits, insurance costs, and more. This is also true for employees that work in an office environment. Copiers, solvents and cleaning products emit gases into the air, carpets release fibers, and if the duct work in the office is dirty, there’s a good chance there’s a lot of dust, mold, and other pollutants floating around that often carry bacteria and viruses. And since employees are spending eight or more hours in that enclosed environment, breathing in those pollutants can, and often does, result in sickness, allergy attacks and more. The end result? Lower productivity, and certainly lower morale, which leads to even lower productivity, and so on.

So what’s the easy solution? Install a commercial grade air cleaning system. An industrial or commercial grade air filtration system is designed to collect and remove heavy amounts of dust, fumes, and other pollutants. Portable household air cleaners simply do not have the same type of filters or the heavier motors and increased output to clean the air properly in commercial or industrial spaces. Offices are sometimes suited to room air cleaners, but the cost of buying an air purifier for every room can be a problem.

For the best  commercial air filtration success, we recommend determining what types of air pollution you have, what size are the spaces where air cleaning is needed, and then choose the appropriate units. For many industrial applications, OSHA often requires the use of source capture units that collect dust and fumes at the place where they are created, directly next to a welding station, laser engraving, or nail station (in nail salons). These business owners usually install one air cleaner per station and an air filtration system attached to the HVAC or air conditioning system to clean up any remaining pollutants.

Larger warehouses may only need one or two large capacity air scrubbers to get the job done. Office settings often require an air cleaner attached to the air conditioner and one or more portable air purifiers in certain locations where air pollution is more concentrated, such as near copiers, paint or solvent supplies, etc. Industrial air cleaners are very effective at cleaning the air, and not as expensive as you might think, especially when you consider that good indoor air quality can reduce employee downtime by as much as 75%, and increase productivity at the same time. Not to mention, installing the proper air filtration system in your business can sharply reduce the chances of any lawsuits from work-related illnesses because 1) the illness-causing pollutants are not in the air for employees to breathe, and 2) if there is an investigation, it would be clear that you took steps to maintain clean air for your employees. And once your commercial air cleaner system is installed, it’s done, and you’ll have the peace of mind knowing that your employees will feel better, and produce more overall. Just the decrease in employee downtime and insurance use can easily pay for the air cleaning system in a short period of time. And then you’ll almost certainly see an increase in productivity because employees just feel better—and feel better about their jobs.

At Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com, we sell the very best portable and fixed commercial air purifiers and filtration systems, quality air scrubbers, air sanitizers, replacement filters, even custom designed air filtration systems for virtually any commercial, industrial, or office situation. Whole House Air Cleaners & Vent Filters: A Great Clean Air System for Your Home

It’s a known fact that over 80% of homes today have some level of indoor air pollution. To deal with this problem, most people begin doing research on air purification to determine what kind of filtration system will work best for their situation. And there are some very good portable or room air purifiers with HEPA and carbon filters that do an excellent job of cleaning the air in a given room, often quickly reducing allergies and asthma symptoms. But what about the rest of the house, or the other rooms? For most, it is often cost-prohibitive to try to buy an air purifier for each room, and even the best air conditioner filters are not capable of removing particles, gases, and chemicals like good room air cleaners.

In most homes, not only is the air conditioner coil dirty, but the duct work is also loaded with dust, dust mites, mold, bacteria, mold and other pollutants, and would require a costly duct and coil cleaning job to prevent this stuff from blowing out into the air in your home. So what is the best, most cost-effective way to clean the air in your whole home, without paying for duct cleaning? Two things: a whole house air purification system and filters installed at the air vents (where air blows out into your room). The best solution we’ve found, other than installing an allergy rated air conditioner filter before the coil is to install a whole house air cleaner after the coil, and install electrostatic or pleated filters at the air vents.

A good whole house air filtration system will have a HEPA filter to remove 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns, and a carbon filter to remove any allergy or asthma-symptom causing gases and vapors. Then, installing filters at the vents will stop any remaining particles, dust, etc., that’s still in the duct work after the whole house system.

Together, a full house air filtration system and the vent filters will give you air as clean as you can get without a duct cleaning job. And whole house air cleaners are easy to install, quickly attaching to the air conditioner or furnace duct. This system will give you clean air in the entire home without the extra expense of several room air purifiers or having to move the air cleaner around to different rooms all the time.

Make sure, however, that you get your whole house air cleaner system from a reputable company, and that it includes a true HEPA filter and a good amount of activated carbon, nothing less. There are brands like Aller Air, for example, that make excellent, affordable whole house systems and have good warranties. Also, we recommend that you go ahead and buy a set of replacement filters for the unit. This ensures that you get the lowest price on filters, instead of waiting 2-3 years to buy them when they need replacing—which is just about when price increases happen. And, be sure to change the pre-filters as this maximizes the life of your HEPA and carbon filters. The vent filters can be found at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. and are very cheap.

At Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com, we are proud to sell only the very best whole house air cleaner systems, filters, and more. And since we’re an online store without the overhead of traditional store, we can pass those savings on to you with the best discount prices and free shipping every day.
