See Dust Accumulating? You Might Need a Better Dust Collector

If you see dust accumulating on machines, equipment, furniture, or anything else in your work shop, that means that dust and particles are airborne—which either means you need a dust collection system, or if you have one, you might need a better unit. Toxic fine dust from cabinetry, wood work, carving, sandblasting, ceramics & sheet rock or drywall is even worse than normal dust because the tiny particles are usually sharp and can really irritate lung and sinus tissue.

And the real problem with breathing this dust is that it’s proven to cause all sorts of allergies, asthma and other health problems—problems and expenses that you’re business doesn’t need. The best industrial particle filtration systems will not only contain a good pre-filter to stop the larger dust particles, but also a true HEPA filter that will remove these toxic fine dust particles. And you definitely want a dust extractor that has a strong output of at least 400 CFM, or cubic feet per minute so that the dust collector can clean the air fast enough to prevent you or employees from inhaling the dust particles first. Some commercial dust extractors, such as cyclone dust collection units, even have a good activated carbon filter to remove fumes as well, which is ideal—the cleaner the air, the better for you and your employees.

And, purchasing a better dust collection system for your home or industrial workshop will help reduce the amount of cleaning and equipment maintenance because the dust isn’t in the air to dirty things up!  It’s important, however, to make sure that you choose a quality brand for your dust collection needs. Cheap or low-cost dust collectors, or those without HEPA filters, can really be a waste of time and money—and may make the air you breathe more toxic, not less. More toxic? Yes—if the dust collector doesn’t have a HEPA filter, it’s allowing that toxic fine dust to pas s through and be blown around or circulated more than if would if there was no dust removal system.

So it’s essential that whatever dust remover you choose has a HEPA filter and a pre-filter, at a minimum. The pre-filter helps protect the HEPA filter from premature clogging and unnecessarily frequent filter changes. The bottom line is this: get a quality dust collection system the first time, such as those made by Electrocorp, and clean the air properly. It will sharply reduce the chances of having any air quality related illnesses, and reduce cleaning time & expenses.
