Dylos Air Monitors/Laser Particle Counters: Easily Monitor, Analyze Air Quality in Confined Spaces-And Keep OSHA Happy!

As a business owner, the last thing you want is indoor air quality concerns, or fines, from OSHA. And indoor air quality / pollution is becoming a bigger and bigger focus these days in shops, warehouses, or other commercial  / industrial situations.  You buy commercial air purifiers / dust collectors to make sure dust, fumes and other pollutants are removed from the work environment. But how can you monitor when purifier / dust collectors aren’t working right, aren’t cleaning the air enough, or if new pollutants have just entered the area—preferably BEFORE you get an OSHA complaint?

The answer is simple: use a handheld, portable laser particle counter / indoor air monitor, such as Dylos’ DC1100 series. OSHA has regulations on parts per million or PPM in every state that dictate allowable concentrations of particles / chemicals in confined spaces.  The best way to handle chemical concentrations is to have an industrial air purification system with enough activated carbon  to remove the chemicals and leave only clean, breathable air (use Electrocorp air purifiers ONLY as they are top-rated, proven, and they can even “tune” the carbon to remove certain chemicals to comply with specific OSHA confined space air regulations).

Managing particles and dust is not so easy, however, because particles and dust are heavier than chemicals and can ‘stick’ to boxes, walls, floors, equipment, etc, and are only released when moved or scuffed by employees.  And before the dust collector/purifiers can grab them, that’s when most particles are inhaled—right after they are disturbed / made airborne by the employee, which often results in an OSHA complaint. And where do OSHA issues come from?  They come from complaints.  And OSHA doesn’t care that you have a confined space air purifier system in place at that point.  If there’s a legitimate complaint and the employee has a related health issue, your system is deemed ‘insufficient’ and you’re getting fined.  Doesn’t seem fair, but that’s how it is.

Portable handheld indoor air monitors, however, can easily let you know when excess or new particles/dust have become airborne.  A laser particle counter detects particles by sending small laser beams into the air—when a dust particle runs into that beam, the particle is counted.  Then, the better air monitors, such as the Dylos DC1100 series, analyze particle counts and sizes of particles so you can get an idea of what kind of particle it is and maybe where the pollution is coming from.  You definitely want an air monitor that is portable / handheld so you can take it to different rooms, warehouses, shops, labs, etc., and make sure that the air quality is acceptable in those confined spaces.

You don’t have to guess, wonder or worry about OSHA anymore as these air portable handheld monitors are fully DIY, easy to use, and are available at low prices, usually $200-300.  You can even use an air monitor to self-test / analyze your air purifier / dust collection system to see if it’s working right, determine if the air is clean in paint booths, or in sensitive lab situations. Portable handheld air monitors are pretty amazing, and can save you thousands of dollars.  And we recommend Dylos mainly because of their reputation, durability and low cost.
