Using Thermometers & Hygrometers for Your Best Home Air Quality

Maintaining the right balance of temperature and humidity in a home is vital to being comfortable, and enjoying your best health. The right temperature and humidity balance not only helps you sleep better and feel better overall while in your home, having balanced optimal temperature and humidity also keeps your furniture and other household items from having cracked finishes or corrosion. Most people look to their air conditioner display to check temperature. Most AC displays, however, don’t provide humidity measurement or any other air quality information, and sometimes don’t provide accurate temperature measurement, either. This is why it’s often helpful to also have portable humidity meter on hand.

Having a portable hygrometer thermometer on hand can not only provide you with a quality temperature monitor and humidity meter, but many brands also provide particle and VOC pollutant information, as well. This can be very useful for finding out what the temperature, humidity and air quality is like in a given room or area. And if one of those is different than the readings in other rooms, you might want to ask why–which could alert you to possible problems that could be affecting your health, your baby’s health, or pets. Too many times, when we don’t feel well in our homes or aren’t sleeping well, air quality is often a contributing factor that isn’t considered. In fact, just a slight increase in humidity above 50% for example, is enough to support the growth of mold and bacteria, while 45% isn't.

At our online store we offer a great selection of the best thermometer hygrometers, thermal cameras and more, all at the best discount prices with free shipping due to our extremely low overhead as an online store. Electric Home Humidifiers: How to Use Them Properly for Best Results

Home humidifiers are a vital tool to help ensure that indoor humidity levels are at optimum levels, not too high or too low, which both create issues. There are a variety of types of electric home humidifiers available, and the best deals are mostly available online. The most important thing, however, is to find out whether you need one or not, properly sizing the humidifier's output for your best allergy, asthma or respiratory relief, and, of course, making sure they don't create issues.

So, the first thing to do is to find out what your indoor humidity levels are. That's easily done with a hygrometer thermometer available very cheaply at Walmart or another department store for $6-10 or so. In general, comfortable healthy indoor humidity should be between 35 and 45%. If the indoor humidity reading stays around that level, you probably don't need a humidifier unless you're trying to break up congestion with temporary higher humidity in a room. If the reading is 30% or less for several days, you likely have some allergy or asthma symptoms that are being made worse by dry air that irritates sinus and respiratory tissue.

If the indoor humidity is indeed  low, your best bet is to get a large room humidifier. A large room humidifier is often the best first purchase so that you have the extra capacity to make a solid change in your humidity. Buying a home humidifier that is too small will have to run constantly, be refilled with water constantly and still might not move the humidity needle enough to give you relief. A large room unit reduces the number of water refills and has the extra power needed, in one unit, which is also better than having 4 or 5 small humidifiers to trip over.

Portable humidifiers are often best because they add moisture where you can get the benefit, without first feeding bacteria and mold in ducts, which duct mounted humidifiers do and pollute your indoor air with germs. You also want a unit that has some type of antimicrobial protection to prevent mold and bacteria from growing in the humidifier--this is vital to prevent the humidifier from actually lowering air quality and possibly making you sick.  You also have to consider whether you want an ultrasonic unit or not. If so, make sure it has a demineralization cartridge to keep mineral spots from settling on your furniture.  If you have respiratory infections or COPD, you'll probably want to consider steam humidifiers, since the mist has been disinfected as it leaves the humidifier.

At our online store, we have a wide variety of portable electric home humidifiers for sale, with excellent warranties, antimicrobial protection and outstanding performance--all at the best discount prices with free shipping due to our extremely low overhead as an online store. Indoor Air Quality Monitors: Helping You Save Money--and Your Health

Home air quality is fast becoming a primary focus in many modern health practitioner circles, and for many individuals. This is because 1) more and more links are being established in research between illness and the pollutants commonly found in homes, and 2) the fact that roughly 9 out of 10 homes have some level of harmful indoor air pollutants.

And that includes new homes, which are often just as bad or worse because of the pollutants generated by new construction activities as well as the products used. But instead of freaking out and buying 20 air purifiers for your home and hoping it works, a smarter approach is often to first buy a handheld indoor air monitor.  Here's why:

Indoor air monitors are often a smarter first purchase because they can quickly tell you what type of pollutants your have, what type of unit or filters you might need, or what other steps you may need to take to clean up your indoor air. Modern air quality meters are for sale online now for around $200 and can tell you about particle, VOC, CO2 levels, even temperature and humidity, all in one unit. The Blueair Aware unit is a good example of this.

While air quality detectors usually don’t tell you what type of particle or chemical, you can still find out quickly whether you need carbon and HEPA, HEPA only, or just carbon, and one type in a certain room, etc--so you only buy what you really need, where you need it. It’s just a smarter way to go instead of throwing your checkbook at it and hoping for the best. You can follow up with specific air quality test kits if you need more specific information about the pollutants.

At our online store we offer a wide variety of home air quality meters to test the air for a variety of pollutants in almost any residential or commercial application. And since we are an online store with super-low overhead, we gladly pass those savings on to you with cheap discount prices and free shipping every day–so you can enjoy the best air quality possible, while saving your hard earned money. Indoor Air Cleaners: Either Your Air Cleaner Can Breathe the Pollutants-Or You Can

Indoor air quality is constantly getting more and more attention as various diseases and general malaise are being linked to the effects of inhaling foreign particle, dust mites, household chemical residues and other things commonly found in homes and offices. The problem of poor indoor air quality is real enough that the EPA recently placed poor indoor air quality in the top 5 major health threats we face. Sure, we naturally think to buy an indoor air cleaner if we have allergies or asthma, but what about for preventing health problems in general and feeling better more often? What about the savings of not having to go to the doctor as often, not miss work, or not having to buy some medications?

Air purification units have been commonly purchased for businesses, offices, manufacturing, welding, etc simply because there are known pollutants and regulations requiring the air to be cleaned And this is still very important to prevent illness for workers and customers, but since we spend a great deal of time in our homes, it certainly makes sense to recognize that there are a variety of health-harming particles and proven carcinogenic (cancer-causing) chemicals present in the majority of homes! Given that there is a 95% chance of your home and my home having these pollutants, we have to realize that either an air cleaner can breathe the pollutants--or we, and our families can breathe them and hope for the best. Uh, no thank you.

At our online store, we offer a wide variety of air purification systems for almost any application, with HEPA, carbon or other media as needed to effectively remove the airborne pollutants. And since we are an online store with very low overhead, we pass that advantage to you with the best discount prices and free shipping on almost all products!

Plus, we ship direct from the manufacturer's warehouses, but don't charge shipping like they would if you bought direct from them. So buying from us is actually better than buying direct! Call our indoor air quality experts today for a free air quality consultation at 1-800-701-2513. We're here to help you enjoy the best, health-improving air quality and save!

Vapor Mist Sanitizers: The New, Better Way to Disinfect Rooms, Surfaces & Vehicles

Keeping surfaces in public areas, hospital rooms, public transportation, ambulances and other high-risk areas free of harmful bacteria, viruses and other pathogens can be very difficult. Much of the problem comes from the constant re-contamination, as well as ineffective, incomplete or inconsistent cleaning patterns. Not to mention, some sanitizing solutions don’t kill everything or be effective for certain pathogens. For example, some disinfectants like chlorine might kill a variety of bacteria, but do not kill mold spores. Chlorine bleach actually causes mold to grow faster.

Another huge issue is improper dilution or mixing of bleach and other disinfectants. If you don't mix to the correct strength, the solution often won't really do the job--it will reduce the number of colonies of bacteria, but might not kill MRSA or Staph as you had hoped. Then, if the surface doesn't remain wet with the disinfectant for 5-10 minutes as usually required, the disinfectant again often doesn't work optimally. Adding to those challenges is the problem of human error, where the usual spraying, wiping and mopping misses certain areas and leaves just enough of the bacteria or other organism for them to reproduce and re-contaminate the surface or room that way. This is why vapor mist sanitizers are the future of proper room and surface disinfection.

Vapor mist disinfection systems emit a ‘dry’ (super fast evaporating) fog of natural disinfectants into a room that reach virtually every available surface, to include areas that almost never get cleaned such as walls, ceilings, vents, under tables, and almost every crack and crevice, textured surfaces with grooves, etc. This dry fog is also tested safe around electronics, so all those dirty areas like computer keyboards and touch screens also get disinfected–all in a matter of a few minutes, instead of the hour or two it might take a two-person cleaning crew to do an equivalent job. The solution used by companies such as CURIS is also sporocidal disinfectant cleaner, meaning it will destroy spore-type organisms such as mold spores, C. Diff and many others. That not only makes facilities safer, but also greatly helps pass tough inspections. Beware of imitators, however, as those systems that use a chemical like vital oxygen, for example, are actually corrosive and break down rubber and plastic surfaces.

At our online store we offer the best, latest vapor-mist disinfection systems with natural disinfectants that are EPA registered, include no harsh chemicals green and eco-friendly and are routinely used by many hospitals, state and federal municipal organizations, schools, gyms, fire departments, EMT's and more to quickly and effectively disinfect rooms, vehicles, and other contaminated areas–all at the best discount prices with free shipping. Call us today with your questions at 1-800-701-2513. We’re here to help you make your facilities safer, reduce liability and save money :)

Industrial Dust Collection Units: Read This Before Buying

Dust collection in commercial or industrial buildings, properties, or work environments is a vital step toward protecting employees, customers and the business, especially if hazardous dust or particles are present. Though there are a variety of types of filtration systems and filters available to capture dust of various sizes, commercial or industrial dust collection is really a fairly simple process once certain variables are known.

Once you determine what the dust is composed of, whether it’s classified as hazardous or not, the size of the particles, how much dust needs to be collected, and where the dust is being generated, you can then pretty easily determine whether an HVAC dust collector, source capture dust collector, or commercial hepa purifier would be best suited for the application.

With that information you can also then determine what type of filters are needed, as HEPA, for example, is not always needed or advantageous. The best way to find out what type of industrial particle air purifier might be needed is to contact a professional and let them help you, as they can quickly tell you what you need and help prevent making a purchase that isn’t right for your application.

At Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com, we offer a wide variety of commercial and industrial dust collection systems, with varying types of MERV, HEPA and other filters to properly remove the dust in your building or work area, all at the best discount prices and often with cheap or free shipping! Call our dust collection specialists today toll-free at 1-800-701-2513. We’re here to help!
