Dust Collection Systems: Why Respirators and Masks Could Be Holding You Back & Creating Liabilities

When you have dust, particles and fibers floating around in a workshop and employees are exposed, often a respirator or mask is suggested. Even if masks are worn 100% of the time, dust masks, even vented goggles don’t stop all of the tiny, more dangerous particles from getting through and causing health issues. Respirators, especially full face types, are better for sure but they can be a nuisance and make it harder to breathe, resulting in lower performance. Another issue are those times when an employee removes their mask in the work area and becomes exposed to what’s floating around. Some pollutants only require a small does like that to cause health issues. Then you have the skin exposure to irritating airborne dust, particles, and fibers, which can allow these pollutants to enter the system and cause skin problems.

The answer to these problems—and a great way to avoid all of them—is to use a proper dust collection system in the workshop, in addition to whatever masks are being used. A dust collector with a HEPA filters can easily remove 99% or more of all of these particles and fibers, so that even if an employee does remove their mask in the workshop, they likely won’t be exposed to much, if any, of these particles type pollutants, which cuts the chances of health issues and reduces liabilities sharply. And, since the air will be clean and free of ambient dust and fibers, your operators might be able get by with wearing just a dust mask instead of a full face respirator, which is much more comfortable and often leads to higher productivity.

For high dust situations, you may need to use a source-capture dust removal unit to grab a high percentage of the particles before they can become airborne, and then use a room dust extractor to pick up any remaining dust or fibers. In this case, using both source capture and a room dust collector may enable workers to wear minimal protective gear—which might mean you spend less on those protective gear supplies, too. Obviously, your masks and respirators will last longer because there is less airborne dust to clog them up, so that saves money, too.

It’s important, however, to make sure that whatever dust collection systems are chosen, that you buy one or more with a high enough output to cycle all of the air fast enough to keep the pollutant out of the air. It doesn’t do much good to have an underpowered unit removing only some of the dust and particles or so slowly that the operators inhale them first. You also want a dust extractor that has pre-filters to trap larger particles before they prematurely clog up your HEPA filters. Finally, it’s also a good idea to leave a dust collector running overnight or when operators aren’t there, as this keeps the air clean so they don’t walk in and get a dose of pollutants before they put on their masks.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com sells only top-quality portable and HVAC dust collection systems and units with maximum dust removal power and durability. And with our low overhead and expert staff, we make getting the right dust extractors for your workshop or woodshop affordable and easy, with discount prices and experts available to answer any indoor air quality question you may have. Looking for Ways to Save in Your Commercial or Industrial Business? The Right Air Cleaners Can Make a Huge Difference.

Every successful business owner is constantly looking at the bottom line, watching liabilities, and looking for new sources of revenue. And there are the usual ways to cut costs, by using lower cost suppliers, modifying procedure for increased efficiency, etc. One way to significantly reduce regular expenses (and prevent ‘surprises’) is to reduce maintenance, liabilities, and healthcare costs—by cleaning up the air properly.

By not having an air filtration system to remove harmful chemicals and particles, those pollutants will, either in the short term, long term or both, cause a number of problems for employees, irritate customers, cause equipment to break down or clog up more frequently. And by not having the right type of air cleaner that is right for the size of your business and type of pollutants does much the same thing. An air filtration unit that is underpowered or too small leaves pollutants in the air to cause problems—and increase costs in various areas. You may also need positive or negative air scrubbers as well, depending on what type of work you’re doing or where the job site is. Industrial or commercial offices are often a danger, too, if they are near or in the building or site where pollutant are being released--in that case, a quality portable office air scrubber can help.

The keys to protecting your business, your employees, customers, and yourself, as well as reducing costs, is to ensure that several requirements are met. First determine the type of pollutants present–for chemical and gas pollutants, make sure your industrial or commercial air cleaner system has the type of carbon designed to remove those pollutants—and the more, the better so the filters will last longer. For particle, dust, or fiber type pollutants, you should be pretty well covered if the air purifier has an industrial-grade HEPA filter, which will trap particles as small as 0.3 microns. If you have even smaller particles, which are more dangerous, you will need to ensure that the HEPA filter used can remove them. The size of the particles, and how well the air cleaner is working, can usually be determined by using an affordable laser particle counter such as those from Dylos Corporation. Next, ensure that the air cleaner(s) adequately cover the space you have, giving you at least 4-6 complete clean air changes per hour, or as required by OSHA.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com sells top-quality, discount industrial air cleaners, with portable office units, source capture air scrubbers, HVAC based air cleaners, positive and negative air cleaners, even custom designed air filtration systems with custom-tuned carbon to remove specific pollutants. Whatever air quality situation you have in your industrial or commercial business, we have the perfect air cleaners to ensure that excellent air quality is maintained and costs (and liabilities) from poor air quality are kept to a minimum. If you have any questions, just give our industrial air quality experts a call toll-free at 1-800-701-2513. We are here to help you get air filtration answers and systems you need, without breaking the bank. Call us today for answers!

Whole House UV Light Air Purifiers & Portable Air Cleaners: A One-Two Knockout Punch for COPD & Severe Allergies.

For those with severe allergies, chronic respiratory infections, COPD and similar ailments, maintaining good health and controlling symptoms is often a daily fight. And a lot of that fight is often because they stay indoors a lot, which unfortunately can easily expose them to more allergens, mold spores, and airborne bacteria, making matters even worse.  Other than medications and breathing treatments, one effective course of action is cleaning up the indoor air—in a certain way.

With regard to cleaning up indoor air, we’re not talking about installing a better A/C filter, getting rid of indoor smoke, or turning vent hoods on to help remove pollutants, although those steps can help. We’re talking about the power of using both an inexpensive whole house UV light air purifier system in combination with at least one quality portable air cleaner in the room where the majority of time is spent.  UV light air purifiers are highly germicidal and use intense ultraviolet light to kill live mold spores, bacteria, viruses and other germs floating through the air ducts of most homes.

All you really need is one good, 36 watt unit placed in the output section of the HVAC or air conditioner system and after a few hours, pretty much anything that was living and floating in the air in your home will be dead-and this will help freshen the air, as well.  Using a simple germicidal whole house UV system kills the airborne germs that usually cause chronic or repeat respiratory infections, severe allergy attacks, even asthma.

The next step is to use a quality portable air cleaner, with a medical grade HEPA filter and a substantial carbon filter. Unlike cheap air purifiers, those from say, Aller Air, Austin Air, Blueair, Winix, etc have true HEPA filters that are certified to remove over 99% of all dust, dust mites, mold spores, and other particles as small as 0.1 microns.

Quality activated carbon filters, such as those in Aller Air, Austin, and Blueair air purifiers are proven to remove over 99% of any chemical or odor type pollutants, which often silently cause significant irritation of bronchial tubes and other areas in the airway, leading to increased medication use, limited mobility, more indoor time. (Winix units are cheaper but don’t have much carbon in their filters).

Believe it or not, most homes have a good amount of chemicals regularly being released and recirculated by the A/C system. Common sources of these chemicals and gases are: household cleaners, paints, fabrics, treated wood preservatives (often contains deadly arsenic), fragrances, solvents, pesticides, outdoor chemical pollution being brought in by the HVAC system and more.

With a quality portable air cleaner running, however, these pollutants won’t get a chance to make symptoms continue or get worse—and the body might just get a chance to heal.  Using both ultraviolet light air purifiers and a good portable air purifier (that also contains UV light bulbs) can seriously make a difference in your health and overall comfort level if you have COPD, allergies, asthma or respiratory issues simply because the living organisms that were present in the air are now dead, and any particles or chemicals are now being removed by the quality HEPA and carbon filters in the air purifier.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com sells only APC brand USA-made whole house UV air cleaners with a solid warranty, excellent construction, heavy duty lab-grade 36 watt bulbs and quality portable air purifiers from top brands such as Aller Air, Austin, Blueair, Winix and more--all at the cheapest discount prices with free shipping due to low overhead.  If you have any questions, just give our experts a call toll-free at 1-800-701-2513 and they'll be happy to help!

Buying a UV Light Air Purification System? 4 Reasons to Buy Only USA-Made Units…

UV light air cleaners are continually rising in popularity, largely because UV light stops mold growth, quickly reducing allergy and illness caused by poor indoor air quality. The good units with true 36 watt laboratory grade bulbs and heavy duty construction do a wonderful job of killing airborne bacteria, mold spores, and other germs that routinely float through the air ducts in most homes. Unfortunately, however, there are a few cheap whole house UV air purifiers on the market now for a very low price—and consequently, there are problems.

First of all, a lot of the ‘cheaper’ UV light air purifier systems aren’t 36 watt units. They either ‘don’t say’ in the ad, and sometimes it’s even misleading, touting a 36 watt bulb but when received, there is either an 18 watt bulb or two smaller bulbs that don’t add up to 36 watts, so read the fine print, for sure, or you might not have enough power in the bulbs to really do any good. These UV bulbs are often referred to as ‘germicidal’ and how ‘germicidal’ they are depends greatly on the strength of the bulb. One bulb at 36 watts is 24k light units, enough to kill most organisms—when you drop below that wattage, you end up leaving many organisms alive to float around in your indoor air.

Second, a lot of the cheap ultraviolet heating duct purifiers available now are made overseas, in China or other locations. While a lot of products made in China are made well and represent a good value, most of these aren’t. Look at the pictures carefully, with a close-up if possible. There are usually some issues with the construction of the box the bulb fits into, loose connections, rough edges, open spaces where moisture can get into the electronics and other things.

Third, the quality of the bulbs is a factor, too—no offense, but US made bulbs last a lot longer, like 2-3 years, as opposed to 6-12 months for the ‘cheaper’ units. This might not seem like a big deal, but it does add up when the bulbs cost $20-$40 each! If you’re an HVAC contractor installing these units for other people, it’s even more important to only provide a good product that works well—otherwise, you’ll end up with more headaches, and less referrals. Some American made UV light air purifier units also have a switch on the outside, which is helpful when you need to get into the A/C system for service, coil cleaning, etc—otherwise you have to go unplug the unit, plug back up when you leave, etc. It’s just easier.

Lastly, you want a USA made ultraviolet heating duct purifier for the sake of the warranty. It’s a lot easier to get problems resolved when the company is here in the US, not 7000 miles away. And most of the American made UV units have anywhere from a 1-3 year warranty, as opposed to 6 months, or no warranty from ‘cheaper’ unit manufacturers. So do yourself a favor and spend that extra little bit and buy the best rated ultraviolet light systems that are American made—you’ll get the air disinfection you want and won’t have to buy a new one for a long time.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com sells only the best USA-made APC whole house UV light air cleaners with a solid warranty, excellent construction, heavy duty lab-grade 36 watt bulbs and proven performance. And since we’re an online store with low overhead, that means cheap discount prices for you, with FREE SHIPPING every day. Worried About Air Pollution? Fight Back with Whole House Air Cleaners!

If you live in an area or city where air pollution is a problem, that outdoor air pollution easily becomes indoor air pollution. This is because air conditioner filters are not able to stop the chemicals that are in the air, nor many of the more dangerous sub-micron size particles as the pore sizes are too large, and every time the HVAC system turns on, it’s bringing in that ‘fresh’ air.  That means that whatever is outside, smog, pollution from factories, car exhaust, etc is all coming inside. And many of these pollutants are known carcinogens or cancer-causing agents as well as contributors to many other types of disease.

Another myth is that if you simply get the best air conditioner filter, it will stop all or most of that. Sadly, this isn’t true, either and causes many people to waste their money thinking they will be breathing clean air in their homes just by buying a better A/C filter. Even the best air conditioner filter’s pore size is too large to stop the tiniest of particles and virtually none have enough or any carbon to remove the chemicals being brought in or circulated within the home.  And no, electrostatic filters don’t stop the majority of tiny particles, and they don’t help with chemical compounds or odors in the air, either. It's all still coming straight into your home and into the air you and your family breathes every day.

For these reasons (and others), an air conditioner duct-mounted whole house air cleaner system can be your smartest,  most cost-effective defense against not only the air pollution being brought in from outside, but also against any pollutants in the home. The whole home air conditioner purifiers made by Aller Air and Amaircare, for example, not only have the best quality, medical grade HEPA filters for best home dust filtration, but also up to 28 pounds of super-activated carbon, which together can remove over 99% of all pollutants in or coming into your home.

Another great thing about a whole house air cleaner is that there it filters all of the air in your home and has only one set of filters to replace—instead of buying several portable air purifiers for each room and having several sets of filters to replace.  That alone saves a LOT of money, both in air cleaner and filter costs. And, those Aller Air whole house air cleaners come with a 10 year warranty—that makes a difference, too.

So if you have air pollution, live in a big city or near industrial factories, paper mills, etc and you’d like to protect your health, definitely consider a whole house air filtration system for your home—or business—and consider Aller Air. They are literally the best, most effective whole house air cleaners we’ve found.  If you want maximum protection, you might consider using a whole home unit plus a quality portable air cleaner. This will trap any remaining fumes, cooking odors, particles or bacteria that might be floating around. This combination approach is really only necessary if you have indoor pets, dog hair, cat hair, excess dust,  excess odors, severe allergy, asthma, COPD or other respiratory issues.  Regardless, a whole house air purifier system can prevent you from breathing disease-causing pollutants on a daily basis--and that can keep air pollution from doing the damage that it does to our health.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com sells only the best full home air cleaner units with long-lasting, top-quality HEPA and carbon filters proven to remove more allergy and asthma causing pollutants from the air than any other air cleaner. And since we’re an online store with very low overhead, that means cheap, discount ‘outlet’ prices for you, with free shipping every day.

Indoor - Outdoor Pets: 4 Tips for Minimizing The Extra Hair, Dander & Dirt

If you have a combination indoor – outdoor pet, you’re just about guaranteed to have more dirt, germs, and other things brought into your home.  Most of these will not only bring in more dust and grass, but also mites, bacteria, fecal matter, and things they pick up from other animals.  Obviously, this can increase allergies and the chances of picking up mites, worms, or bacterial infections from our furry friends, none of which are desirable.

So what can you do to minimize all the extra hair, dirt, dust, dander or other things that your pet is bringing in from outside?  Here are 4 tips to make like easier, cleaner, and healthier for you, your family, and your indoor-outdoor pet:

1)  Mats: Put a good mat on the ground outside a pet door and one on the inside. And try to pick those that have a slightly rough surface so they’ll pick up what might be on your cat or dogs paws. And don’t forget to spray these mats a couple of times a week with a disinfectant—this can help not only keep anything from growing on the mats, but can help sanitize their paws a little, killing any bacteria they might be tracking around your house. This also helps keep pet odors down in your home since much of what was on their paws won’t be tracked all over the house.

2)  Regular nail clipping:  believe it or not, if nails are kept short and clean, they won’t pick up quite as much dirt, dander, mites or other things while outside.  This is much healthier for your pet as well, and helps keep their paws from getting any infections, fungus, etc.

3)  The Towel Trick:  right after your pet comes in, throw a towel over them like you’re drying them off after a bath. This helps grab any loose ‘stuff’ (dander, hair, grass, etc) that might fall off as they roam around your house. Then wash the towel in hot water to eliminate any bacteria that might have been picked up.  This helps reduce the amount of bathing and grooming as well, since a lot of those outdoor ‘particles’ won’t have a chance to get worked down into their coats!

4)  Pet air purifiers: having an indoor pet makes having an air cleaner very important for maintaining clean, allergen-free air, but far more so when you have an indoor-outdoor dog or cat. If you don’t have an air purifier, consider getting a quality unit with HEPA and carbon filters. You might consider getting a couple of units if you have allergies or multiple pets and might want to keep one running by the pet door so that a lot of the hair and dust they bring in or release when they shake will get picked up by the air purifier before it can circulate to the rest of the house.  Two particularly effective and affordable air purifiers we recommend are the Austin Healthmate Plus and the Blueair 203--both regularly receive great reviews on their ability to quietly remove pet dander & odor

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com sells only the best pet air cleaners with quality HEPA and carbon filters proven to remove hair, dander, and odors better.  And since we're an online store with low overhead, this allows us to provide these amazing pet air cleaners and other products at the cheapest discount prices possible with free shipping every day. Quality Portable Air Purifiers: Health Protection from Airborne Bacteria & Viruses When You Travel.

We all know that most colds, flu and other illnesses come from being around other people. And when you travel, you’re in lots of public places, around other people, which exposes you to even more new substances, bacteria, viruses, particles and other pollutants. And if you’re trying to control or minimize symptoms of an allergy, asthma or other health issue, that extra exposure to pollutants and germs can make feeling good a lot harder than usual. A very good solution to this problem that will take care of an average of 70% of any new allergens or germs (since most people are still indoors about 70% of the time when they travel) is to grab an inexpensive quality portable HEPA air scrubber and take it with you.

HEPA air purifiers, at least the top-rated units, are capable of removing over 99% of all dust, mold spores, bacteria, mold and chemicals (if the air cleaner has a good carbon filter as well) in any indoor space—hotel, homes, offices, etc. And if you’re only breathing clean, fresh air 70% of the time, that will make a big difference in your allergy or asthma symptoms, and may very well prevent you from catching a cold, flu or other illness while you’re away—and that’s very important, too, so you don’t bring it back with you! Especially if you’re traveling to areas or countries where the heating and cooling systems are very old, or the homes are very old with lots of mold and bacteria in them, you definitely want an electronic air filtration system to filter that indoor air instead of you, your family or employees just breathe in a big dose of whatever’s floating around.

You do want to make sure that you choose a quality air purifier, such as those from top-rated brands like Aller Air, Austin Air, Blueair, Winix, or Electrocorp for business and industrial applications. All of these room air purifier brands are proven to provide excellent dust, mold, and chemical filtration so that you and your fellow travelers can breathe easy and not worry about or deal with being sick. Specifically, some of the best rated, most easily portable home air cleaners are the Aller Air 4000 series, Austin Healthmate Junior, Blueair 203, and Winix 9300 or P300 units. All of these are compact, but have quality HEPA and carbon filters, use very little energy, and are relatively inexpensive, ranging from $300-400 or less.

The Blueair 203, in fact, is one of the quietest room air purifiers we’ve tested, so if being quiet is a plus, we’d recommend that one. For the longest lasting filters, we recommend either Aller Air or Austin Air (up to 5 year filter life). Also, if you’re traveling to another country, be sure to get whatever plug adapters and voltage adapters or converters necessary so that the different voltage doesn’t burn up your air cleaner—which usually isn’t covered by warranties, either, FYI.

Regardless, when you travel, we highly recommend that you pick up one or more quality portable air cleaners and throw in the trunk or suitcase. You’ll sleep better, minimize allergy or asthma symptoms that might ruin your trip, and likely prevent anyone getting sick. Oh yeah—see if you’re doctor can prescribe an air cleaner for you; insurance might help cover part or all of the cost!

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com sells only the best portable air purifiers systems that are top-rated, and proven to remove over 99% of harmful airborne pollutants in any home, room, or office. And since we are an online store with low overhead, this allows us to sell these amazing air scrubber brands at the cheapest discount prices anywhere, with free shipping every day.

Plus, if you have questions, we have a team of indoor air quality experts on hand to answer your questions, before and after the sale.  Give us a call today and get a quality air cleaner for your home or travel use—you’ll be amazed at what a difference super-clean indoor air can make!

Home Air Filtration: Protecting Your Health & Preventing Illness with Air Purifiers

Americans are now spending upwards of 90% of their time indoors these days, between home and the office alone. Then, we’re in restaurants, theaters, and other indoor spaces—point is, we’re an indoor society and that means the quality of our indoor can be a big determining factor for our health. And since most home and offices have significant levels of pollution from dirty ducts, air conditioner coils breeding mold and bacteria, dust, pet dander, chemical residues and more. Not to mention what we track in from outside sources. And yes, if your air conditioner ducts haven’t been cleaned in the last 6 months, or they’re not new, they are loaded with dust, dust mites, mold, hair and more.

Since our HVAC systems constantly circulate these indoor air pollutants, and A/C filters actually only trap about 15% of the pollutants in a home, that leaves 85% of dust, dust mites, mold spores, bacteria, viruses, etc for us and our families to breathe—unless of course, you have a quality home air filtration system in place with HEPA and carbon filters. A good indoor air cleaner with a HEPA filter traps over 99% of the more dangerous sub-micron size particles that home and office A/C filters can’t stop, and good activated carbon filters trap over 95% of any chemical residues from cleaning products, wood preservatives, carpets, paints , solvents, etc, preventing them from causing problems. Without these pollutants in the air, our bodies don’t have all that foreign stuff to react to so allergies and asthma are naturally reduced—along with medication costs.

And, a good air cleaner trapping those airborne bacteria and viruses helps keep your family stays healthy longer, with fewer colds and flu—which, again, saves you money by reducing doctor visits, medication costs, etc. You do want to make sure you stay with top rated indoor air purifier brands like Aller Air, Austin Air, Blueair, Electocorp, Winix, etc so that you can be certain you have an air purifier that will clean the air properly. Cheap air cleaners simply aren’t worth the money as they usually don’t have the same quality filters and don’t clean the air as well. So if you are looking for good ways to not only save money, but also protect yourself, your family or employees from illness, allergies & other issues, a good home air filtration system or a couple of portable air cleaners is a very effective, low-cost way to do it.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com sells only the best, top-rated and most affordable home air filtration systems that are proven to provide super clean air and reduced chances of illness. And since we’re an online store without the overhead of big department stores, this allows us to bring you the best products at the cheapest discount prices—with free shipping every day. If you have any questions, just give our experts a call toll-free at 1-800-701-2513. We’re here to help!
