Dust Collector or Shop Vacuum? The Answer is ‘Yes’

Workshops and woodshops all produce one thing very well—lots of dust. And a lot of home woodshop and industrial shop owners wonder if they should buy a dust collector or just a shop vacuum and clean up as much as they can to prevent health problems, unnecessary equipment maintenance, etc. Most business owners and individual home woodshop owners are very aware that the dust is harmful—they’re just not sure if it’s enough to worry about or worth spending the extra money for a dust removal system.

The answer to that question is a definite ‘Yes’ or ‘Both’, because first of all, if there are any employees, OSHA has requirements for clean air in the workplace with hefty fines for non-compliance. Second, for truly clean air, you must take steps, such as with a shop vacuum, to keep the area clean, and have a particle filtration system running with a HEPA filter and adequate intake/ouput to handle the space involved. Leaving excess dust on the floor simply leaves it available for air to blow across it and cause the particles to become airborne, creating hazards.

And if you’re not vacuuming your machines, drills, sanders, saws, etc, you’re going to experience a lot more equipment maintenance and downtime, which hurts production and profits. It’s about like saying do I just buy a vacuum for my house or do I filter the air? In both cases, at home and in commercial workshop settings, there are things and places that a vacuum won’t be able to clean, and once the particles become airborne, they need to be removed quickly to prevent health hazards. A quality portable dust filtration system can do that for you, and some, like Electrocorp units, are even designed to run continuously to maintain a very high indoor air quality.

But just like anything else, there are quality dust collectors and there’s a lot of junk. For quality dust particle filtration, if a unit does not have a good pre-filter and an industrial-quality HEPA filter, plus a strong intake / output rate of at least 300 CFM, don’t buy it, especially if you have a large room, woodshop, etc. A pre-filter extends the life of a HEPA filter out to 2-3 years or more, and a unit without a pre-filter will require several HEPA filter replacements per year, which can get expensive. Electrocorp dust collection filtration units, for example, all come with a pre-filter and long-lasting HEPA filters. Next make sure you calculate the amount of air that is in the shop, building, room or job site by multiplying square footage of the area times the ceiling height.

Divide that by the output of the unit and that will tell you how many minutes it will take the dust collector to clean all of the air. Keep in mind that most OSHA requirements are at least 4-6 complete air changes per hour so you’ll need enough dust extractors or particle filtration units to cover that. So, bottom line: definitely have a shop vacuum or whatever cleaning equipment you need and use it, but also use a portable dust collection system. You’ll save a lot in the long run, and it just might prevent a lawsuit or OSHA fine, two things that no business owner needs.

Got Pet Dander, Odors? Think UV Light Air Cleaner!

Many pet owners deal with pet dander and odors on a daily basis, and some buy portable air cleaners to help filter these pollutants out of the air. In many cases, however, the sinus infections, allergies, and odors are still present. What’s going on? Likely, there is a lot of dander and other odor-producing particles stuck in the duct work and every time the central air conditioner turns on, it blows out some of these particles into every room in your home. And unless you have a portable air cleaner with a lot of carbon running in every room, there’s a good chance that you’ll breathe and smell these odors and other pollutants before the air purifier can get to them. And many of these particles coming out of the HVAC ducts and vents are actually loaded with live bacteria, mold spores, fecal matter from the dander, etc—not something you or your family should be breathing.

This is where a good home HVAC ultraviolet air purifier system can make a big difference. UV light, provided that it’s UV-C , not only kills any bacteria, mold spores, viruses or other duct-dwelling organisms on contact, but also produces a lot of healthy, negative OH- ions that further destroy bacteria and naturally freshen the air. Negative ions are present everywhere in nature, especially around waterfalls , when it rains, etc, and they create that fresh smell and relaxed feeling. These negative ions also cause particles to actually fall out of the air, and makes them easier for HEPA filters to trap them. Because of these benefits, a proper 2-bulb UV light air cleaner system mounted in the duct work is often the ‘missing link’ in truly getting rid of the last dust & dander particles and tough pet odors. Two things have been proven: UV light kills mold & bacteria, and destroying these organisms before they get out of the air conditioner ducts definitely reduces odors and improves home indoor air quality. A very smart air purification step, indeed.

All ultraviolet light air cleaners are not the same, however, so be very careful when selecting which one to buy. First, the bulbs must be true, laboratory grade 36 watt UV-C bulbs to have enough light units to kill the bacteria, mold and other organisms, and you need two bulbs placed 30 inches apart. This system gives you a proven kill rate of over 99%–any UV light systems with only one bulb or lower wattage bulbs will not provide enough light units to do the job. Second, ensure that the bulbs are mounted correctly in the HVAC or central air conditioner ducts—mount them on the output side of the inside air conditioner unit, after the coil. This is because many organisms live right on the cooling coil and get blown out into the ducts from there, and having the UV light air cleaner positioned after the coil ensures you’ll destroy those odor and allergy-producing dander, dust, and particles, too.

Some people install a home UV air cleaner bulb on the output side and that kills germs being released the coil before they get out into the ducts. One of the best UV light air cleaner brands to choose is APC, which features the laboratory strength, 2-bulb UV air purifier systems we mentioned above, with solid-state electronics, long-lasting bulbs, and an excellent track record of success. Most people find that they are breathing easier and sleeping better in as little as 24-48 hours after installing in the HVAC duct. So if you’ve tried everything and still have dander & odor problems, definitely consider installing a quality home UV light air purifier system. We think you’ll pleasantly surprised.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com offers the best HVAC duct mounted ultraviolet light air purification systems that are proven to kill over 99% of bacteria, mold and other organisms, freshen the air, and reduce allergies within 24-48 hours after installation.

Welding Fume Air Scrubbers: Use a 2-Extractor System for Best Protection

If you own or work in an industrial or commercial welding shop, you know that welding (and soldering) produces some of the toughest and most dangerous chemical fumes, gases, vapors and particles that must be removed to be able to work safely. Oddly, however, a lot of businesses only buy one source capture fume extractor for every two stations, or just one unit per station, thinking that will be enough for proper protection. If the welding or soldering station was in an enclosed ‘box’ with a fume extractor running, one source capture fume extractor per station might work. Most workshops, however, have one fume extractor that is usually underpowered or is running with expended, non-absorbent carbon and isn’t capturing all of the fumes, gases, particles—and that means the pollutants are getting out into the main air space in the shop. And when the welder is finished, and the fume extractor is turned off, those other pollutants are still hanging in the air creating a health hazard.

To solve this problem, a 2-extractor system is recommended, with one quality welding fume source capture unit  at the welding or soldering station, and one large room gas & vapor collection system constantly running out in the main area. This will make sure that any residual fumes or gases are captured when the source capture unit is turned off, make all of the carbon filters last a little longer, and provide much better protection for employees. Electrocorp is one excellent fume extractor manufacturer with both source capture units and large room gas collection systems that are proven for commercial and industrial use. And by using this two fume extractor system, you’ll be taking that extra step that reduces liability and employee down time, and actually increases profits because happy healthy employees generally do more, better quality work.

Choose wisely when you purchase fume extractors, however, and order the proper number of fume extractors needed to give you the OSHA required number of clean air exchanges. Don’t let someone tell you that all you need is one source capture unit for every 2 welding or soldering stations—that advice will get you into trouble, and might cost you your business when a sick employee sues and wins for illness caused by improper air filtration or negligence. And stick with Electrocorp fume extraction systems—they have been proven since the early 1990’s and are the #1 choice in many industrial and commercial applications. It’s like knowing the water quality where you live is poor, but buying a cheaper water filter that doesn’t clean the water completely, just to save a buck. It will cost you in the end. As for which fume extractors to choose, we recommend the LD 450, MD 750 or MD 950 for source capture units, and one or more RSU 24 or 48’s for the large room unit.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners offers quality Electrocorp commercial welding fume air scrubbers, portable fume extractors for soldering, and just about any other application where chemical, smoke, VOC, gas or particles need to be removed. And since we are an online store, that means we can use our low overhead to bring you these amazing fume extractors at the best discount prices possible, with free shipping every day!

Dust Collection Filtration Systems: A Great Way to Cut Costs, Prevent Loss

If you run any kind of workshop, woodshop, at home or in a commercial setting, a dust collection system not only makes the work area more comfortable, it can cut costs and prevent losses in many areas. Machines, saws, routers, sandblasters, drills, etc., all cause various degrees of toxic fine dust to be floating in the air. Sure, you can wear a respirator, but when you take it off, are you going hold your breath and run out of the room? No, you’re probably going to do a few more things before you leave, which exposes you to that harmful, illness & allergy causing dust.

And those vents around the edge of your goggles—most of them let in dust, as well, and what most people don’t realize is that these toxic particles (and chemicals attached to them) can get into your system through the eyes, and directly into brain and nervous tissue. Your skin also absorbs toxic fine dust particles, much more than you think, and this is also a way that disease, OSHA complaints, and lawsuits can happen. Plus, all that dust floating around naturally causes an increase in cleaning, equipment maintenance, employee time, health care costs, and as a business owner, all of these things reduce your profits.

A workshop or woodshop with a dust collection filtration system running, however, can easily avoid all of these problems, and even reduce costs, which drives profits up, where they should be. Proper commercial dust collection filtration systems, such as cyclone dust collectors, include a true, industrial strength HEPA filter, which traps the tiny, toxic fine dust particles and a good pre-filter system to trap the larger particles first and keep them from clogging up the HEPA filter. This is where many dust collector manufacturers make their money on you, the business owner, when the unit doesn’t have a pre-filter—they’re counting on all the extra filters you’re going to have to buy when those large particles clog up the HEPA filter in 3 months, instead of it lasting a couple of years. One great dust collection filtration unit manufacturer is Electrocorp. All of their dust & particle removal units & systems come with a certified, industrial strength HEPA filter that removes over 99% of all particles, dust, fibers, etc, even ceramic, brick, & sheetrock dust in a matter of 2-5 minutes, an effective pre-filter, solid steel construction, powerful output of 1000 CFM or more, and a full 10 year warranty. Plus, Electrocorp also has an incredible reputation for effectiveness and value in almost every industrial or commercial industry or setting.

Always buy quality when it comes to any kind of  dust removal system, especially woodshop particle removal units. Buying a slightly cheaper unit without all of the necessary features mentioned above not only won’t clean the air properly, but they can actually increase liabilities since they’re only removing some of the particles and just circulating the rest that their ‘HEPA-style’ particle filters can’t remove. And when a cheap dust collector or cyclonic-style unit breaks, you’ll have to buy a better quality unit, which would have been best to begin with, to avoid spending money on a cheap unit that breaks down. It’s a lot like insurance—you buy quality insurance to give you the most protection possible to prevent loss, right? Quality dust collection systems really offer you that extra bit of good insurance by preventing illness and unnecessary costs, something a cheap particle filtration unit cannot do.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com offers an excellent selection of portable woodshop dust collectors, cyclone dust collectors, replacement filters, and much more—all at the best discount prices possible, with free shipping–every day. We can do that because we’re an online store with very low overhead–and that means savings for you. Best Air Cleaner for Dog Hair: Three Great Affordable Units

Dog hair can be such a nuisance, floating around in your home, bedrooms, kitchens, etc. You sweep, vacuum and mop two or three times a week and still you see that dog hair floating in the air when the morning sunlight shines through the window. And then you sneeze, cough, and the allergies kick in, again. Where does this dog hair come from? You vacuumed and cleaned pretty well, right? That excess dog hair comes from three main places: more from the dog, since indoor pets shed more hair when they are warm, hair stuck to furniture and walls that becomes airborne when you sit down or move it, and hair that has become stuck in air vents that blows some out every time the air conditioner starts up. Dog hair (and cat hair) easily becomes electrically charged—that’s how it sticks to furniture and walls, where you don’t always clean and when air blows across it, the hair can become airborne.

All of these dog hair sources are pretty tough to stop—can’t plug up the air conditioner vents, clean the walls and all your furniture every week, and you certainly don’t want to get rid of your dog or dogs. The next best solution is to grab a quality pet air purifier that is designed to quickly capture these floating hairs, and reduce cleaning time! The best dog allergy air purifiers come with high-quality HEPA filters and strong motors that can cycle all of the air in a room in 2-4 minutes! What is the best air cleaner for dog hair? We recommend 3 units: The Austin Pet Machine, The Blueair 650E, and the Winix 9500. All three have super-HEPA filters that trap not only large dust, dander, and hair particles, but also the more allergy & asthma aggravating smaller particles down to 0.1 microns, which is even small enough to trap most bacteria. And equally important, these pet air cleaners have good pre-filter systems that trap the larger particles before they prematurely clog up your HEPA filter—causing unnecessarily frequent and expensive filter changes.

That said, pet air purifiers without some kind of pre-filter system should be avoided. Also, any pet air purifier that claims it’s great for odors and doesn’t have several pounds of carbon should also be avoided, since activated carbon or zeolite are the only two types of media that really work to remove pet odors. If you stick with the three units we mentioned above, or possibly the Aller Air 5000 Vocarb series (which is an outstanding air purifier), you can be certain that well over 99% of all dog hair, dander, dust, and odors are removed every 2-4 minutes, period. These pet air cleaners are proven, and we highly recommend them over all of the other pet air purifiers we’ve tested.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com is your #1 source for quality dog hair air cleaners that work well for odors and other pets–all at the cheapest discount prices possible with free shipping every day. We’re an online store with very low overhead, so you can rest assured that you’re getting the very best prices every time—it’s our policy to provide you with the very best air purifier deals available, with a safe, easy checkout and outstanding customer service. Best Fume Extractor Manufacturer? Electrocorp is #1–And For Good Reason.

If you’re looking for the best portable fume extractor manufacturer, you have to look at performance, quality of materials, and reputation over time. There are lot of so-called ‘quality’ fume extractors on the market that simply 1) don’t have the right type of industrial strength activated carbon, 2) don’t have enough carbon, 3) don’t have pre-filters to extend the life of carbon filters , 4) aren’t made with solid steel and heavy duty components, or 5) don’t have the output necessary to effectively remove gases & vapors in the workplace, or 6) don’t have the respected reputation in tough industrial and commercial circles. Fortunately or unfortunately, there is only one brand has all of the above important features and an amazing reputation in every single category or industry where they are used—Electrocorp.

Why Electrocorp? Since the early 90’s, Electrocorp has been serving up the very best chemical toxin air filtration units and HVAC filtration systems with fine granular carbon filters and a proprietary activation process that makes the carbon more ‘sticky’ or absorbent than any other carbon filter. That makes for removing tough welding, soldering, and other chemical fumes better than any other. That fine granular carbon, as opposed to the crushed carbon and large granules found in cheap units, offers much more surface area for absorbing chemicals. Add high output, heavy duty motors and other components, and a full 10 year warranty, plus even custom designed carbon blends to remove whatever chemical fume, gas or vapor that is present, and you have a fume extractor that will outperform the competition every single time. And, Electrocorp has kept these amazing fume collection units affordable in an effort to offer superior health protection to as many commercial and industrial employees as possible.  Many Electrocorp fume extractors also come with medical grade ‘super HEPA’ filters to remove any harmful particles, as well, for complete protection.

Again, don’t be fooled by cheap portable fume extractor claims when the units don’t have all the necessary features. If the unit doesn’t have a minimum of 20 pounds of the best industrial strength carbon and a strong intake / output, it isn’t going to function like the excellent gas & vapor collection system they say it is. Also, if you look at law enforcement for example, Electrocorp fume extractors are used in about 80% of all evidence rooms—and that’s just one example of an entire industry where one brand is chosen 80% of the time. And that can only be the result of high performance, value, and proven reputation. So if you’re looking for the very best portable fume extractor manufacturer, Electrocorp is the one you can trust.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners offers an excellent selection of the best Electrocorp industrial fume & gas collection systems, commercial air filtration units, replacement carbon filters, and much more, that are amazingly effective for removing just about any fume, chemical, smoke, VOC, gas or particle you might have in your industrial workshop, welding & soldering shop or other work site. And since we are an online store with very low overhead, you can rest assured that you’re always getting the very best discount price possible, with free shipping, every day. Large Room Air Cleaners for Small Rooms? Your Best Bet for Severe Allergies & Asthma

Severe allergy or asthma attacks are called ‘severe’ because the reactions to skin or respiratory allergens can be severely unpleasant to sometimes life-threatening. And since those individuals with severe allergies or asthma are hyper-sensitive to very small amounts of dust, dust mites, mold or other allergens, how well a portable room air cleaner is working can be a very important factor. Oddly, many severe allergy sufferers don’t get a lot of relief from HEPA air cleaners and begin to think that they don’t work. Truth is, HEPA room air cleaners are proven to reduce the severity and frequency of allergy attacks, but when there is only small amount of relief, the real problem is likely—low output.

And it just makes sense. If a portable room air purifier isn’t removing the dust, mold and other pollutants fast enough, the person would breathe them first and think that the air cleaner isn’t much good. If a large room air cleaner, on the other hand, is used in a smaller room, research has now shown that the stronger output or faster air cycling time gets the air cleaned faster, and provides much more relief for the patient. Here’s an example: if a small room air purifier is being used in a room size that it’s rated for, such as 100 square feet, with a 100 CFM output , it will clean all of the air in that room in about 8 minutes. If a larger room air purifier is used in the same room, however with an output of 200 CFM, it will remove all of the pollutants in about 4 minutes, 400 CFM, 2 minutes, etc. And that’s with the door closed, which most people don’t do at home or at the office, so the pollutants from other areas is constantly flowing into the room, making a large room air cleaner even more appropriate.

And if a portable air purifier is removing over 99% of the pollutants in the room every 2-4 minutes, there’s very little chance that you or the patient will breathe them, get them on their skin, etc. If you have severe allergies, do make sure that, whatever home or office air purifier you purchase, that it does come with a true HEPA filter, an activated carbon filter for chemical residues (many are proven allergens), an AHAM certified output of at least 200 CFM, and the more the better to make sure the air in your room or office get cleaned quickly and effectively.

Top-rated air purifier brands are best, as well, and usually have all the right features, strong outputs, etc: Aller Air, Austin Air, Blueair, etc, and you’ll usually get a great warranty too, which is important. Most of these portable air purifiers also come with a good pre-filter system that extends the life of the HEPA and carbon filters, which saves you money on filter replacements. So for the best severe allergy or asthma relief, buy a top-rated large room air filtration system with an output above the size of the room you’re buying it for and you’ll get a LOT more relief, faster.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com offers an excellent selection of the best, maximum performance room purifiers proven to relieve allergy and asthma symptoms in as little as 24-48 hours. We also sell complete home air purifier systems, personal air purifiers, replacement HEPA and carbon filters, air testing kits and more.

And since we are an online store with super low overhead, that you get all of these products at the cheapest discount prices possible, with free shipping–every day!
