Home Air Quality Test Kits: 4 Useful Tips

There are a ton of air quality test kits on the market, testing for various things, with various price ranges, with AIHA accredited lab results and without—and everyone markets theirs as ‘the best’. And without a little education, that can make it tough to make sure you’re getting the right test kit, with reliable results.

First, it’s important to decide what you’re going to test for. If you have a history or know that something potentially hazardous was detected in your home before, then you probably want to test for that. Otherwise, if you have something more general going on and don’t know exactly what’s bothering you—or you just want a full report on what is or isn’t in the home, it’s a much better and cheaper idea to test for ‘allergens’ which detects mold spores, pollen, dust mites, skin Cells, etc., instead of just buying a mold test kit that only checks for mold.

Second, you may want to get a more comprehensive test kit like the Evaluaire 2000 or Test Your Nest kit from BHC, instead of just a single test strip or cartridge to check the air or surfaces in one room. That’s because we often don’t know for sure where the airborne pollutants are highest in concentration and getting one of these airborne pollutant test kits gives you enough air sample cartridges and surface test strips to do 2-5 rooms depending on how you use them.

Third, be certain the kit you choose includes lab results from an AIHA (American Industrial Hygiene Association)-accredited lab. Too often, home air test kits say ‘fast lab results’ but the lab isn’t AIHA accredited or accredited at all. Some type of real accreditation is sufficient, but having it from AIHA ensures competent evaluation and real results with very low error ratios. It’s no good and a waste of your time and money if the lab tests aren’t accurate and give you false (and potentially hazardous) information—hazardous to your health and finances because you might take action based on false information.

Fourth, keep in mind it’s usually a good idea to retest or recheck the air and surfaces 1) after cleanup or remediation efforts to see where you are, and 2) after any possible airborne contamination from any infectious or air-polluting source. That said, it’s good to choose air test kits that have extra surface test strips either in the kit or available for separate purchase. The Evaluaire kits, for example, do offer this option. It can be hazardous to just test, do some mold cleanup, for example, then think everything is fine—only to find out later that everyone is getting sick because the remediation wasn’t effective and the mold is still there—which you would know and could have prevented, if you re-tested afterwards.

Portable Industrial Air Scrubbers: Think Electrocorp for Best Performance & Value

When you need accurate, effective and thorough air cleaning for your shop, job site, plant or other location, you want clear cut information, reliable easy to use filtration units, and a fair price. Too often, however, those selling industrial air cleaners either don’t know enough about filtration to properly advise you, the listings don’t provide clear information about the unit’s capabilities, and the prices can be excessive—just because they think you’ll pay it. Electrocorp, however, has made raving fans of their company for years by doing just the opposite.

Electrcorp has been providing customer-tailored portable industrial air scrubbers specifically designed to remove the pollutants they are working with, every time, with very clear cut information—and always at an affordable price. In fact, Electrocorp (owned by AllerAir Industries) has provided the highest grade and most effective activated carbon filtration systems in the world, earning them the title ‘Kings of Carbon’. And that’s also because if you need to remove say, isocyanate from the air, the Electrocorp technical team will engineer that carbon to have a special affinity for that pollutant.

And the more dangerous the pollutants are, the more important it is for you, as a business owner, to know that it’s being removed effectively from your shop or job site. So instead of being put in a potentially liable situation with carbon that doesn’t remove the pollutants effectively, an Electrocorp commercial air purifier provides you with filtration system that does the job and prevents health problems from exposure--reliably and affordably. Electrocorp can even estimate yearly operational costs for the air cleaner, estimate how long the carbon will last, based on the type of pollutant and PPM levels, room size, etc. They are professionals at industrial air filtration—exactly the type of support you need when trying to ensure safe, clean air for you and your employees.

So if you’re looking for the best portable industrial air scrubber value, the answer is clearly Electrocorp, with quality activated carbon, medical grade HEPA filters, for almost any application from welding to laser engraving, to police evidence rooms, and much more. And since our online store is an authorized Electrocorp dealer with extremely low overhead, that means you’ll always pay even less buying your industrial air purifier system from us, and get free shipping—with discounts on filters when you need them, too! Our industrial air filtration experts are always available, as well, should you have any questions. Call us today toll-free at 1-800-701-2513. We’re here to help!

Want Cheap, Super Clean Air in Your Home Without Air Cleaners on The Floor? Think Whole House Air Purifiers

If you want clean air in your whole home but don’t want to spend $500 or more each for a quality air purifier for every room--and you really don't think they add to your decor, there is a better way. And you don’t have to settle for several cheap, smaller air purifiers that might be less noticeable but won’t really do the job. The answer is to install an electronic whole house air cleaner system, which attaches to the air conditioner ducts, filtering all of the air in your home.

Instead of having several air cleaner out where you and others can see them, run into them, etc, it saves a lot of space and your décor but installing a deluxe whole house air purifier system that is out of sight, attached to the A/C system. And--if you buy several floor air cleaners, you'll have several sets of filters to replace (expensive), whereas a whole home air cleaner only has one set of filters to change. And, if you buy a really good unit, such as those from Aller Air with 28 pound of powerful activated carbon, a medical HEPA filter, etc, you’ll get super clean air in your whole home for a lot less money--actually, for what only one or two quality portable air purifiers would cost.

Best of all, you can buy a variety of quality whole home air cleaner systems from our online store at the best discount prices with free shipping every day, due to our extremely low overhead. And we have a team of indoor air quality experts available to answer your questions, before and after the sale—in fact, for as long as you own or use our products. The Pet Air Cleaner Review: 3 High-Value, Affordable Pet Air Purifiers

Buying the right pet air cleaner can be tough, mainly because there are a lot of details and every pet air cleaner manufacturer thinks theirs is the best. That’s why we did our own review of three and researched customer reviews on three units, for all the important things about a pet air cleaner–dander & hair removal, odor control, filter life, room size coverage, noise level and price. Each category has a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the best. Here’s what we found:

First Place: Austin Pet Machine Price: $594
Dander & Hair: 5 Odor Control: 4.6 Filter Life: 5 Room Size: 5 Noise: 4 Price: 4 Overall: 4.6/5
This unit performed best overall according to our test results and customer reviews, removing over 99% of particles 0.3 microns and over 95% of particles 0.1 to 0.299 microns--a great bird or
cat dust air purifier. Filter life is a solid 4-5 years, which is exceptional for a true HEPA and activated carbon filter to last that long. Room size coverage was also very good, covering up to 1500 square feet with the unit on medium high to high. Noise was acceptable and not very noticeable at medium to medium low speeds. High speed did make the unit noticeably louder, but you normally don’t leave an air cleaner on high for very long, usually only a few minutes to clear out an area, etc. Price is reasonable considering the substantial air filtration power, long filter life, and 5 year warranty. The Austin Pet Machine has been highly rated over and over and proven in testing as one of the most effective pet odor air purifiers.

Second Place: Winix U450 Signature Series Air Purifier Price: $369
Dander & Hair: 5 Odor Control: 3.9 Filter Life: 4 Room Size: 4 Noise: 4 Price: 5 Overall: 4.31/5
This air purifier is one of the best values on the market, edging out the popular Blueair 203 by few points as a great
pet hair remover—but with some other distinct advantages, creating excellent customer reviews that matched our test results. The filters are very effective for removing over 99% of pet dander, hair, dust and other particles as well as odors, and they include a pre-filter (which extends the life of the main HEPA and carbon filters) plus healthy negative ions that destroy airborne bacteria and odors. Room size coverage is 450 square feet and the unit is remarkably not that noisy even on it’s Turbo setting and whisper quiet on low. Both HEPA and carbon filters are washable, too, so you can get a full 12-18 months out of a set of filters, not 6-8 months like other units. Also has a great modern look and comes with a remote, which neither the Blueair or Austin units come with.

Third Place: Blueair 203 with SmokeStop Gas & Odor Filter Price: $418.00
Dander & Hair: 5 Odor Control: 4.2 Filter Life: 3 Room Size: 3 Noise: 5 Price: 5 Overall: 4.2/5
This performed cleaned the air very well, with exceptional dust, hair & dander removal capacity, removing 99% of particles down to 0.1 microns (better than most HEPA filters), and excellent odor reduction. Gas & Odor SmokeStop filter includes quality activated granular carbon for powerful odor absorption. This unit also includes healthy negative ions for increased HEPA filter efficiency and covers room up to 175 square feet. The Blueair 203 created noticeably cleaner air in about 15 minutes, reducing dust and odors quickly—and more quietly than the other two air purifiers. Only drawback we saw the smaller room size coverage. At the same time there’s another plus: if you don’t really need odor control, the basic 203 can be purchased with a standard Blueair Particle Filter for $329. This air cleaner comes with a 5 year warranty, as well.

Any of these three pet use air purifiers will work well for getting rid of pet hair, dander, bird & cat dust, and odors. If you are really on a budget and don’t have many pet odors, the Winix 9500 is still a great pet air purifier; this unit will remove hair and dander very well, but doesn’t have enough carbon in the filters to adequately remove pet odors, especially if you have multiple indoor cats, dogs or other animals. If you have really tough odors or multiple pets, we would recommend considering one or two of the Austin Pet Machines as a good solution and you might consider buying an extra filter to have on hand so you don’t have to wait for the new filter. Best of all, at our online store you can buy any of these units at a discount with free shipping due to our extremely low overhead. Call our pet air purification experts today and find out which unit is best for your situation. We’re here to help!

Construction: #1 Worst Job for Lung Health

Construction workers encounter a variety of particle and fiber type pollutants on a daily basis, with especially high risk during demolitions and renovations, making construction one of the worst jobs for lung health, according to a recent study published by Health.com. Demolitions and renovations, in particular, place workers at high risk for lung cancer, mesothelioma and asbestosis, a disease the can lead to scar tissue forming in the lungs, reduced lung function, etc.

The problem with demolitions and renovations is that often these jobs involve housing or structures that were built 20-30 years ago when many building products contained hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead, and others that weren’t banned yet. And of course, just about any construction project or job site is going to have other types of pollutants floating around, from sheetrock dust, wood fibers, concrete dust, metal flakes and dust, and all of these can and do cause regular skin and respiratory irritation for a lot of workers.

Making sure employees wear protective gear such as suits, respirators and avoiding smoking does help, but it’s also a very good idea to have a dust removal system running whenever there are particles and fibers present, since people do take respirators off, don’t wear them sometimes, etc. As a business owner, keeping a portable dust extractor or two on hand is smart insurance against workers comp claims, OSHA citations, and other expenses that you want to avoid.

And regardless of equipment manufacturer claims, any filters they include on the units such as grinders, table saws, drill presses, belt sanders, etc will only stop the larger particles and because of the airflow, will actually push through and circulate sub-micron particles in the work area, actually creating more of a hazard. That is why you need a quality particle removal system in place with a HEPA filter to get rid of those particles before they cause a problem.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com offers high quality, portable construction site dust collectors with true industrial-grade HEPA filters, proper pre-filters that extend filters life, and custom solutions to fit almost any commercial application. And since we’re an online store, that enables us to offer these amazing products the cheapest discount prices available, with free shipping every day due to our extremely low overhead. Portable Air Purifiers: One of The Best Ways to Stay Well

There’s a ton of research out there now with many studies showing that most of us have polluted air in our homes. This is mainly because everything in the home (including us and any pets) releases particles, skin cells, bacteria, fibers, and other things on a daily basis. Add to that what our air conditioners blow out of the vents (dust, dirt, mold spores, bacteria, viruses) plus the chemical fumes from materials used to build our homes or apartments, plus the air pollution brought inside by our air conditioners and pretty soon our well-insulated homes have concentrated levels of pollutants in the air—pollutants that cause allergies, colds, flu and other illnesses when we breathe them every day.

The simple way to sharply reduce the chances of getting sick would obviously be to have something to remove those pollutants regularly so we’re not breathing them, right? Exactly. This is why taking one easy step and buying a top-rated portable air filtration unit can make such a huge difference in whether you stay well regularly – or get sick regularly. And no, you don’t have to break the bank to get a good portable air purifier.

Some of the best electronic air scrubbers, such as those from Austin Air, are priced in the $350-600 range, which amounts to pennies per day for super clean air, after just a couple of years—and these air cleaners are designed to last for many years beyond that. Another couple of great portable air cleaner brands, Blueair and Winix, both have the latest air filtration technology and units in the $150-$700 range. So there’s a quality room air purifier – as well as illness and doctor-bill prevention–available for just about every budget, if you know where to look.

And the best place to look—where you can find the best deals on top-rated portable HEPA air cleaners is at our online store, Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com. We offer the cheapest discount prices with free shipping every day due to our extremely low overhead—which means the very best deals for you! Indoor Air Purifier Systems: A Smart Way to Eliminate Trips to The Doctor

It’s pretty well known that the majority of households have significant levels of indoor air pollution. This regular exposure to dust, dust mites, bacteria, mold spores, viruses, and chemicals might not seem like much of a concern, especially if you don’t really notice any health issues at the moment—but it’s there and as soon as the toxins build up to a certain level in the body, the result is allergies, headaches, poor sleep, respiratory issues and even more serious health conditions over time.

Essentially, if you see any dust on your TV, you’re breathing air that’s polluted with those things—and you know it’s in the air because it had to get there by floating through the air. The same is true for big offices and businesses—if you see dust, you and everyone else is breathing it, too. All of these pollutants end up increasing our level of discomfort one way or another and often contributes to more trips to the doctor.

The solution? The best, simplest way to eliminate over 99% of this problem is to install or buy a quality air purifier system. A top-rated electronic indoor air purifier system, either portable or attached to the HVAC system that includes true HEPA and activated carbon filters is all it takes to remove over 99% of these pollutants and keep you and everyone else from breathing germs and chemicals that cause or worsen allergy, asthma and other conditions. Could preventing or at least reducing trips to the doctor be that simple? Absolutely! Yes! It’s one of the easiest ways that you can cut expenses associated with healthcare—which as many of you know, can be quite expensive, even devastating.

And you can easily buy the best top rated air cleaners from our online store at the cheapest discount prices possible with free shipping due to our extremely low overhead. We take pride in making it easy and affordable for everyone to enjoy clean air in their homes and offices. We also have a team of indoor air filtration experts on hand to answer any questions you may have. Give us a call today toll-free at 1-800-701-2513 and feel the difference that breathing super clean air every day can make!

Improving In-Home Air Quality: 4 Quick Fixes for Common Problems

Just about all of us have poor indoor air quality and don’t even know it—or we don’t think that there's enough to worry about.  What we have to keep in mind, however, is that just because we don't think there's a problem doesn't mean that the coast is clear--it just may show up later in the form of 'mystery' allergies or illness. Good indoor air quality isn't just about filtering the air--it consists of several things, such as keeping pollutants out of the air, maintaining proper humidity and temperature, etc. That said, there are a few quick things you can do to dramatically improve home air quality:

Humidity:  You want to make sure your indoor humidity isn’t too high—or too low.  Anything above 50% humidity is feeding bacteria and mold growth.  Below 30% is often too little humidity and can irritate sinus and respiratory tissues. So you want to stay in that 35-45% range for health and comfort. Fix: Buy a hygrometer to test your humidity first.  If it’s less than 30% (which often happens at colder outdoor temperatures), buy a humidifier and adjust to around 35-45%, with 35-40% usually the ideal spot. If it’s over 50%, get a dehumidifier and run until you get humidity within acceptable levels. This helps keep odors down, too, if you keep excess humidity out of the air.  Also, look for any wet areas and fix any leaks.

Particles:  One of the biggest contributors to house dust is what’s coming out of the air conditioner ducts. Quick fix: cut a/c filters into pieces that will fit behind the room vents—doing this can knock out over 80% of dust and particles coming out of your ducts.  Then, to protect yourself from micro-particles and bacteria that are too small to be trapped by the A/C filter,  buy an air filtration system that includes true HEPA and carbon filters, such as those from Aller Air, Blueair, Austin Air, etc. These all work well and can easily remove over 95% of allergy and disease causing particles, bacteria, chemicals and more from your indoor air.  This is especially helpful if you have pets as indoor animals often increase indoor air pollutants by 50-100% or more.  Obviously, once or twice a week vacuuming and mopping can make a bid difference, too.

Chemicals:   Even if you don’t notice any odors, paints, solvents and cleaners all release chemicals into the air. Odors are airborne chemicals, too and some of them cause sinus irritation as well as the unpleasant smell.   Fix:  Get all clears, solvents and paint containers out of the house (into the garage, in an air tight container, etc) can make a huge difference.  Also, if you are using a quality air purifier with a large amount of carbon, that will help remove any residual airborne chemicals and sharply reduce any odors that are constantly being produced (cooking, pets, etc).

Finally, consider opening your windows for a few hours per day instead of running the air conditioner (turn it off while doing this). This will allow air to circulate in your home without the A/C air blowing dust and debris out of the duct work (yes, unless the ducts are brand new or cleaned in the last month or two, they're dirty). Indoor air is typically about 5 times more polluted than outdoor air so allowing some fresh air in through the windows for part of the day a few times a week can improve your indoor air quality--and save on your power bill.

Ultrasonic Aromatherapy Diffusers: A Better Deal Than Warming or Evaporative Vaporizers

When it comes to aromatherapy diffusers, there are many types of vaporizers to choose from. Other than the appearance, what it boils down to, however, is how the oil is being vaporized—by simple evaporation, heat, or ultrasonic vibration. Of those three, ultrasonic aromatherapy oil diffusers tend to be the better, more effective option versus the other two for several reasons.

Heat-assisted nebulizers, of course, use a heating element to heat the oil to increase the rate at which the oil evaporates or changes into gas form. And while this isn’t usually a lot of heat, some warming aromatherapy oil diffusers that plug into a wall socket or car lighter can actually overheat the oil or pad, which can become a fire hazard and the excess heat can change the oil to where it’s releasing something that isn’t so healthy for you to breathe—and it usually starts not smelling as good when that happens, too.

Evaporative, non-warming diffusers are much slower and depend on airflow in the room as well as a constant wetting of wicks to keep the rate of evaporation or fragrance release at a certain level, which can become a little bit aggravating because you don’t get a consistent flow of fragrance unless you are wetting the wicks or fanning air past the bowl where the oils are = too much maintenance. This is why, for our dollars, we recommend ultrasonic aromatherapy diffusers.

Ultrasonic essential oil nebulizers use very little energy, provide a consistent rate of vaporization or essential oil vapor release, they’re quiet, and there’s no chance of a fire since there is no warming that is taking place. A good example of a quality ultrasonic essential oil vaporizer is the Stadler Form Jasmine. It’s attractive, comes in various colors and though it uses advanced Swiss technology and design, it’s only $59.95—which means it will last for years without any trouble. We highly recommend it if you want pure essential oils consistently diffusing into the air of your home, with zero maintenance and without damage from heat or any fire hazards.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com offers the best deals on quality aromatherapy vaporizers, essential oils, and other aromatherapy products—all at the cheapest discount prices with free shipping due to our extremely low overhead. How to Extend HEPA & Carbon Filter Life--with Pre-Filters

A lot of people use air cleaners with quality HEPA and carbon filters, and often notice that they’re replacing those HEPA or carbon filters a little more than they’re comfortable with. Of course, if the filter needs replacing it’s because it has become full and has removed a lot of pollutants. And that’s good, right? Sure! But what many people are not aware of is this: if that air purifier does not have a HEPA or carbon prefilter, or a filter that stops the larger 3-10 micron particles before they reach the those main filters, what happens is something called premature filter saturation. That means that the air spaces in the HEPA and carbon filters become prematurely blocked by larger particles, reducing or stopping airflow, and eventually causing the filter to become saturated or full, too soon. And that costs money—unnecessarily.

Some air cleaner manufacturers such as Aller Air, Electrocorp or Austin Air include pre-filters with their units because they understand this problem and they want to provide you with an air purifier that offers more value, less maintenance, and better performance. As result, their filters can last on average, 3-5 years. Many other quality air cleaners, such as Blueair however, do not include a prefilter. And as good as Blueair air purifiers are, their filters need replacing every 6-8 months—which is largely due to….premature filter saturation.

The solution? If you have an air cleaner with a pre-filter, simply buy replacement carbon prefilters, HEPA pre-filters, or whatever the unit calls for to get the maximum life from the main filters. Aller Air pre-filters do degrade over 4-6 months and can usually only be vacuumed once or twice before they become damaged and start allowing particles to get through. Austin Air pre-filters are made of a similar woven material and need replacing every 6-8 months.

If you have a Blueair air cleaner or another brand that does not have a pre-filter, you can still extend the life of the main filters. All you have to do is buy some pre-filter material and cut a sheet that is about the same size as your regular filter and place in front of the main filter set so that this is the first thing the air goes through. You’ll very likely notice that you get anywhere from 40-80% more life from HEPA filters especially, and something similar for carbon filters (depending on use-carbon can become spent faster simply from excess chemicals or smoke in the air). Then just replace those pre-filters about every 3 months and you should be good. That’s an easy way to get much more life from your air purifier filters—and save a lot of money. Doing this, you may get 1-2 years of service—instead of 6-8 months. Big difference.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com offers quality manufacturer-made Aller Air, Austin Air and Electrocorp prefilters—all at cheap discount prices with free shipping due to our extremely low overhead. We’ll soon be adding cut to fit pre-filter material that you can buy, as well, to help extend the life of HEPA and carbon filters in non-pre filter air cleaners. Whatever questions you have, call our experts toll-free at 1-800-701-2513 and we’ll be glad to help you choose the proper HEPA prefilter, carbon pre-filter or whatever filter you may need for your unit. Want Cheaper Carbon Filters? Buy Bulk Activated Carbon!

Like almost everything else, if you're going to get quality, you'll have to pay more for it. And the same is true regarding replacement activated carbon filters for many of today's best air purifier brands like Aller Air, Austin Air, Blueair, etc. These filters cost more because the quality and effectiveness and amount of charcoal present in the filter is higher. At least with Aller Air, however, there is a way to reduce carbon filter costs--buy bulk activated carbon!

Aller Air and Electrocorp (the industrial side of Aller Air) make bulk carbon available to the public for just this reason--to help the consumer (and Aller Air) save money. You can buy premium bulk carbon for your Exec or Vocarb air cleaner--the charcoal is the same quality as what came with the air cleaner originally. By purchasing bulk activated carbon this way, you can save anywhere from 15-35%.

And, of course, air purifier manufacturers like Austin Air, Blueair, and other brands don't offer bulk carbon, but if you can get to the carbon in the filter and replace it with premium Aller Air carbon, you may be able to save on those filters, too, and possibly get better air purifier performance because the Aller Air (especially the Vocarb blend) is so effective. If you have industrial air cleaners that need anywhere from 60 to 240 pounds of carbon, buying bulk charcoal can really be a great way to go.

Best of all, you can get the bulk activated charcoal you need at a discount with free shipping from our online store, Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com.  We also have a team of residential and industrial air filtration experts on hand to answer any questions you may have. Fogger Sanitizing Machines: Far More Effective & Safer Than Aerosol Disinfectants

When it comes to disinfection of offices, gyms, daycare centers, clean rooms, industrial workshops, laboratories, etc, most of the products used are either a concentrated disinfectant delivered through a spray bottle or aerosol cans. And while aerosol delivery does coat a surface more evenly with smaller droplets, there are still many areas and surfaces that go un-cleaned—not to mention many aerosol disinfectants still releasing fluorocarbons that are bad for the environment. Plus, many of these disinfectant chemicals leave behind chemical residues that are quite hazardous, such as quaternary ammonia, for example.

A far more effective and safer disinfection solution is a fogging disinfection system, such as the Halo Fogger produced by Sanosil International. First, instead of harsh chemicals like those found in most aerosol disinfectants, the Halo Fogger uses a solution of hydrogen peroxide and silver ions to not only destroy virtually every known pathogen (including mold, C. diff, MRSA, enteroviruses, EV-D68, etc), but also prevent their replication as the silver ions bind to their DNA.

Next, the Halo Fogger’s vapor mist not only reaches every available surface where most cleaners and sponges never go, but the droplet size is such that it coats and disinfects the surface but evaporates very quickly so that there is no real ‘wetting’ of the surface, which is one reason the Halo Fogger is safe for use directly on and around all electronics—very important for healthcare.

And, the Sanosil solutions, SO 10 and HaloMist do not leave any residue or odor—which is also very different from many harsh chemical cleaners.  Plus—disinfecting an entire room is so much faster and easier with a vapor mist sanitizing system, such as the Halo Fogger. Instead of wiping everything down by hand and ‘hoping’ to get everything clean, all you have to do is place a Halo Fogger in the room, set the number of minutes based on room size, push the time / start button and leave the room for the specified amount of time.

When you return, every surface in the room (or treatment area) will have been disinfected—including ceilings, walls, under counters, etc—places where hazardous germs hide and often cause infections. And in the wake of things like Ebola or other viruses, we need much more comprehensive, far-reaching disinfection systems to prevent the spread of those germs—and fogging disinfection systems are exactly what the doctor ordered. Keep in mind, however that Sanosil is the only one of these type of systems that is EPA registered and meets all the CDC-recommended requirements for Ebola—none of their competitors can say this.

So whether it’s a school, gym, daycare, office building, or healthcare setting, if you want a faster, much more effective, less hazardous, and more economical disinfection protocol, consider incorporating a clean room disinfectant fogger such as the Halo Fogger. Charcoal Air Filters: Don't Get Ripped Off By Cheap Carbon Filters

There are a ton of air cleaners on the market that say that have carbon or charcoal air filters or pre-filters to remove odors and chemicals. And most consumers will buy one of these units, hoping to get some noticeable reduction in odors or airborne chemicals in the home. Sadly, most of the activated carbon filters not only contain a cheaper grade of carbon, but also not very much of it, which provides minimal performance and short filter life. Uh...not a good deal.

For these reasons, if you are looking for real odor and chemical absorption from an air purifier, it’s very important to closely inspect the charcoal filter. First, you’ll want to make sure that it contains granular activated carbon, not crushed. Granular carbon has much more surface area (as well as less space between the granules) and does a far better job of cleaning the air than crushed, cheap activated charcoal filters. Second, you want several pounds of activated charcoal in the filter, not a few ounces or a thin foam sheet. Activated carbon does ‘fill up’ or become saturated as chemicals attach to the carbon granules or pieces, so the more carbon you have, the longer it will last.

Also, when it comes to charcoal air filters, a thicker filter is generally better, i.e. 2-3 inches thick is much better than ¼ to ½ inch thick. This gives the air more time in contact with the activated charcoal and therefore does a better job of removing the chemical or odor pollutants. So this is another thing to inspect when you’re looking at an air purifier’s charcoal filters—how thick is it? Finally, the type of activation process used to ‘activate’ or increase the carbon’s affinity for chemicals matters, as well. Aller Air, for example is both heat and chemically-activated, which makes it much better than most charcoal filters on the market that are only heat or chemically activated, not both.

Regardless, once you do have a quality air purifier with the right type of carbon, it’s very important to buy replacement carbon filters on time or a little before to prevent circulation of polluted air. When the carbon filter is full, it will allow the air to pass right through the air cleaner, without removing the chemical pollutants, which circulates those chemical pollutants more than they would be without a fan blowing them around which can increase allergies and sensitivity reactions. You can even buy bulk replacement carbon for Aller Air and Electrocorp filters at a cheaper rate—just make sure you replace those carbon filters regularly to prevent health and allergy issues.

Is Your HEPA Air Cleaner Making You Sick?

If you haven't replaced the filters in a while, it's very possible. HEPA filters do a great job of trapping bacteria and virus-laden dust, fibers, pet dander and other particle-type household pollutants. They are one of the best ways to control and even stop allergies and asthma caused by these pollutants.

If you don’t replace them on time, however, the filter does fill up to a point that the continuous airflow through the unit can damage the fibers that have locked in all those germs and actually begin to let them pass back out into the room—and now, these pollutants are being circulated by the fan in your air purifier.

So if you’re experiencing a return of allergies, sinus, or other health troubles, or conditions that you didn’t have before, and you haven’t replaced your HEPA filters, you might want to do that. The last thing you want is a concentrated dose of bacteria, viruses and mold spores blowing back out into your room—with an overly full HEPA filter, that’s likely what you’re getting. Not to mention, the increased air resistance created by overly-full HEPA room air filters increases noise levels in an air cleaner, which can make them difficult to use in bedrooms and other sleeping areas.

Not replacing your HEPA air cleaner filters isn’t really saving you money, either. An air purifier working harder to push air through a full HEPA filter can noticeable increase power consumption, which can show up on your power bill. And, you’re very likely to spend more money on medication and doctor visits by breathing polluted air. On the other hand, if you simply replace your air purifier’s HEPA filters as recommended by the manufacturer, however, you’ll be able to avoid all of these issues, keep costs down in quite a few areas, and certainly feel and sleep better. And while trying to use HEPA filters for air disinfection isn’t really accurate, they can go a long way toward keeping over 97% of germs out of the air, which can keep you from getting sick quite as often.

Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com is your #1 online store for certified replacement HEPA filters for many top-rated air cleaner brands like Austin Air, Aller Air, Blueair, Tiger, Electrocorp and more-all at cheap discount prices with free shipping every day due to our extremely low overhead.
