Dylos Air Monitors/Laser Particle Counters: Easily Monitor, Analyze Air Quality in Confined Spaces-And Keep OSHA Happy!

As a business owner, the last thing you want is indoor air quality concerns, or fines, from OSHA. And indoor air quality / pollution is becoming a bigger and bigger focus these days in shops, warehouses, or other commercial  / industrial situations.  You buy commercial air purifiers / dust collectors to make sure dust, fumes and other pollutants are removed from the work environment. But how can you monitor when purifier / dust collectors aren’t working right, aren’t cleaning the air enough, or if new pollutants have just entered the area—preferably BEFORE you get an OSHA complaint?

The answer is simple: use a handheld, portable laser particle counter / indoor air monitor, such as Dylos’ DC1100 series. OSHA has regulations on parts per million or PPM in every state that dictate allowable concentrations of particles / chemicals in confined spaces.  The best way to handle chemical concentrations is to have an industrial air purification system with enough activated carbon  to remove the chemicals and leave only clean, breathable air (use Electrocorp air purifiers ONLY as they are top-rated, proven, and they can even “tune” the carbon to remove certain chemicals to comply with specific OSHA confined space air regulations).

Managing particles and dust is not so easy, however, because particles and dust are heavier than chemicals and can ‘stick’ to boxes, walls, floors, equipment, etc, and are only released when moved or scuffed by employees.  And before the dust collector/purifiers can grab them, that’s when most particles are inhaled—right after they are disturbed / made airborne by the employee, which often results in an OSHA complaint. And where do OSHA issues come from?  They come from complaints.  And OSHA doesn’t care that you have a confined space air purifier system in place at that point.  If there’s a legitimate complaint and the employee has a related health issue, your system is deemed ‘insufficient’ and you’re getting fined.  Doesn’t seem fair, but that’s how it is.

Portable handheld indoor air monitors, however, can easily let you know when excess or new particles/dust have become airborne.  A laser particle counter detects particles by sending small laser beams into the air—when a dust particle runs into that beam, the particle is counted.  Then, the better air monitors, such as the Dylos DC1100 series, analyze particle counts and sizes of particles so you can get an idea of what kind of particle it is and maybe where the pollution is coming from.  You definitely want an air monitor that is portable / handheld so you can take it to different rooms, warehouses, shops, labs, etc., and make sure that the air quality is acceptable in those confined spaces.

You don’t have to guess, wonder or worry about OSHA anymore as these air portable handheld monitors are fully DIY, easy to use, and are available at low prices, usually $200-300.  You can even use an air monitor to self-test / analyze your air purifier / dust collection system to see if it’s working right, determine if the air is clean in paint booths, or in sensitive lab situations. Portable handheld air monitors are pretty amazing, and can save you thousands of dollars.  And we recommend Dylos mainly because of their reputation, durability and low cost.

Mold: Detection is the Best First Step in Eliminating Exposure to Toxic Airborne Black Mold Spores

You’ve probably wondered more than once ‘do I have mold’?  The stuffy sinuses, constant respiratory/sinus/allergy issues make you miserable more often than not.  Truth is, many people choose to live with the situation, either because they think they will have to call in expensive professional mold detection services or they think it’s just not that big of a deal. Well, the bad news is that mold can be a really big deal to your health.   Still, the most important (and the smartest) thing to do is to self-test and check to see whether mold is the issue or not.

The good news is that you can buy a black mold test kit, which will identify those and other mold spores in your home.   And DIY mold test kits have come a long way in recent years.  Now, instead of requiring mold remediation specialists to come out and test your home, there are many mold detection kits available online for anywhere from $10 to $60 or so. Most of these test kits will identify a broad range of molds, some will detect only black mold, etc.

So why is there a difference in price? Typically, the less expensive mold test kits usually either 1) take too long to get results 2) the results are not from an accredited lab, and / or 3) sometimes are more difficult to use, petri dishes, etc. Those DIY test kits that are a little higher cost, from companies like BHC are simple instant test strip type test kits that you mail off and get lab-grade results in 3-5 days, with detail as to what kinds of molds are present. That is why the BHC test kits are the best quality—cost a little more, yes, but they are easy to use, highly rated, and offer detailed accredited lab results in just 3-5 days.

If the mold test results are positive, you definitely want to take steps to eliminate exposure to any airborne toxic black mold spores, to include checking for / fixing any leaks you may have, installing an allergy rated filter in your a/c system, and possibly getting an air filtration / purification system (either a top rated portable air purifier or a whole house system).  Good air purifiers can make a big difference in getting rid airborne mold spores.  And you may still want to consult a professional mold remediation    specialist to ensure that the mold problem is eliminated. But at least you can self-test for mold in your home now, affordably, and know whether you have a mold problem or not--before you spend any more money.

At Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com, we sell the best toxic mold test kits and many other types of air test kits (bacteria, allergens, lead, radon, etc) to help ensure the safety of you and your family. We sell only BHC test kits as they are the highest quality—and we sell them at discount prices with free shipping.  We also have air quality experts on hand to answer any questions you may have. If You Wake Up Sneezing, Coughing, Tired--You Could Have Mold in Your Home

Do you wake up with eye irritation, coughing, sneezing, respiratory issues, headache, fatigue—even flu-like symptoms, tight chest, or dizziness?  Is there any kind of musty or mildew smell in your home?  You could be having symptoms of mold exposure.

Mold is everywhere. And just about all homes and buildings have some degree of mold. Mold feeds on moisture and organic material (any kind of material found in nature, wood, fibers, etc) and it’s almost impossible to prevent moisture from accumulating at least a little bit in homes. How much mold and what type of mold are the key factors to watch, however. If you are having any of the symptoms above in your home, especially when you wake up, you may have a mold problem. If it’s toxic black mold, your life could actually be in danger as this type of mold produces mycotoxins that have very bad health effects—such as damage to nerve and organ tissue.

So how do you find out how much and what type of mold is in your home? Well, the first step in mold removal / remediation is detection / identification. And one of the fastest and easiest ways to do this is to use a Mold Test Kit. These kits are simple test-strip type kits that you mail off and get lab-grade results in 3-5 days. And it’s cheap—usually around $50.

If you do have mold or toxic black mold is present, you’ll then want to take several steps, in addition to installing a full home air cleaner system: 1) check the humidity level in your home, which can be done with an outdoor thermometer that has a humidity dial, or your local hardware store may have a humidity meter. The humidity should be in the 30-50% range ideally. If indoor humidity more than 50%, you’ll need to figure out why—there is probably a leak somewhere, which must be found/fixed-- steam or condensation on pipes could be part of the issue, as well. 2) Make sure your home a/c has an allergy rated filter (1500 or higher), 3) If you see any mold, the area needs to be cleaned with a strong solution of chlorine bleach/water—make sure you put on a respirator or mask before attempting any cleaning to prevent inhaling spores.

Once the area is cleaned, and if the area was painted, you may want to repaint with mold-killing paint such as KILZ. If you have black mold, we advise that you seek. Killing mold requires that the moisture / food sources be removed, and spores destroyed from every area that might be contaminated. This is where professional mold remediation services can be a great deal of help, as they are trained to effectively and safely remove toxic black mold permanently.

Again, to further safeguard yourself from the ill health effects of mold, we also highly recommend that you install a quality whole house air purification system to keep you from inhaling the mold spores and mycotoxins that cause allergy andasthma and other respiratory symptoms. One good whole house air purification system that is affordable and effective is the 6000 D AH Vocarb from Aller Air.. This unit attaches to the home HVAC duct and features a medical grade HEPA filter, activated carbon to remove organic vapors in the air (some of which can come from mycotoxins), plus optional UV lamp for extra mold, bacteria and virus killing power. This way, all of the air in your home will be cleaned, not just one room (as with portable air purifiers).

At Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com, we offer the best air purification / air quality products available, at the lowest prices possible with free shipping. And, we have air quality experts to help you make the very best air purification / air cleaning product purchase. Call us toll free at 1-800-701-2513 if you have any questions!

Quality Portable Air Purifiers: A Key To Reducing Allergies at Home and the Office

So many of us wake up with a stuffy nose, scratchy throat, sneezing, or go to work and immediately begin coughing or sneezing.  That is because something is in the air that is irritating our nose, throat, and respiratory areas, plain and simple. Bottom line: getting a quality air purifier /cleaner can sharply reduce or even eliminate your home / office allergy attacks.

So what’s in the air in homes / offices?  Most all homes and offices have a variety of pollutants floating around, even if there is a decent filter in the air conditioner. Pollutants like  Dust, mold spores, dust mites, dust mite particles, pollen, bacteria, viruses, fabric particles from carpet / furniture, vapors from cleaning products/paints/solvents and more, are usually not stopped by the air filter in the a/c. To stop these pollutants you need both a good HEPA filter. But that’s not all—to remove the other allergy-cause agents like fumes/vapors from cleaning products, paints, carpets, copiers, etc, you need activated carbon.  An air purifier with these two types of filters will often make a noticeable difference in your allergies within 24 hours.  But not all air purifiers are the same. You need to get a top-rated air cleaner to effectively clean the air—the cheaper units simply don’t work as well, and they usually don’t last more than a year.

Your best solution to clean up the air and effectively reduce allergies in the home or an office is to get a portable room air purifier with 1) HEPA filters 2) Carbon filters 3) Healthy Negative Ions (ionic).  Why these 3 purification methods?  It’s simple:  the negative ions, while not only antibacterial and antiviral, also cause small particles to clump together, make it easier for the HEPA filter to trap them; the HEPA filter traps all particles 0.3 microns and larger (the larger 10-20 micron pollen and dust particles that cause most of the sneezing / nasal-airway irritation and the more dangerous sub-micronic particles that cause disease); and finally the carbon filter removes the vapors and gases, leaving you clean, healthy air  to breathe.

A couple of brands that specifically offer all three of these features are: Blueair air purifiers and Winix air purifiers, with Blueair being more powerful, better at removing odors, with longer lasting filters. The Winix models do a great job,  are more cost effective, but they are best suited for lighter air pollution situations.  We offer Blueair, Winix and several other great brands of air purifiers  / cleaners at Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com.  And since we are an online-based store, we don’t have the overhead of traditional stores-which means we can pass the savings on to you by offering top-quality products at low discount prices, with free shipping!

If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-701-2513. We have air quality experts standing by to help you make the best air purifier purchase possible!

Want To Cut The Cost of Allergy or Asthma Meds, and Save Time? Think Clean Air!

What’s an inexpensive way to reduce or eliminate allergies, asthma attacks in the home? Many people have found that top-rated air purifiers or air filtration systems that feature true HEPA filter and activated carbon do an excellent job of removing dust, dander, mold spores, smoke and odors that cause the allergic or asthma symptoms.

Too expensive? Not always. Better quality air cleaners often do, yes, but there are ways of getting a good air purifier without paying through the nose. First, you don’t have to buy the most expensive air cleaner. There are several very good brands of electronic air purifiers that feature HEPA filters and activated carbon, with great warranties that are in the $400-600 range, and some even under $300. Brands such as Blueair, Winix, and Austin Air all offer affordable air purifiers that will remove the pollutants in your home or office air that cause problems for you and your family.  And if you can put the air purifier on a credit card, obviously you can space the payments out that way. If your doctor prescribes an air purifier, be sure to check with your insurance—insurance may cover some or all of the cost.

The biggest thing that makes a good air purifier affordable is the fact that you will buy less allergy medications, less tissues, and you’ll spend less time dusting and cleaning because a lot of that dirt that normally floats around will already be removed. So if you add it up, you end up saving a lot in terms of time, cleaning products, allergy / asthma medications, and more.

Don’t be fooled by cheap air purifiers. Price isn’t always an indicator of quality, that is true, but it is also true that it costs more to make good air purifiers so you have to pay a little more to get air cleaner that will last, has a good HEPA filter, the right kind / amount of activated carbon, and a good warranty. Most air purifiers under $100 are made of cheap materials to they can keep the cost down, but in turn, do not clean the air effectively and end up needed to be replaced within a year. A quality air purifier or air filtration system will last for years, and save you time and money in the end.

At Air Purifiers and Cleaners, we offer the best quality, top-rated allergy air purifiers at the best discount prices possible, with free shipping, and an expert staff to help you make the air purifier purchase is right for you and your family. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call toll-free at 1-800-701-2513. Our air quality experts are standing by!
